SUMMARY:
Our client is urgently looking for a Health & Safety Manager to join their Laboratory Team at the head office in Gauteng. The Health & Safety manager will develop, implement and manage Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness best practices at company ensuring the organisation complies with current legislation and approved codes of practice in relation to service provision.

  • Relevant Degree or Diploma ( Health & Safety)
  • 2-3 Years Supervisory Experience
  • 3-5 years relevant working experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Determines the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with line Management) for the continuous improvement of the Regional and Peripheral Laboratories’ SHE management program and systems.
  2. Advises management and assists with the implementation of new or existing SHE-related legislation, rules and Company standards to include fire prevention, health and safety awareness
  3. Training, site inspections of All Facilities (including contractors’ sites).
  4. To conduct prevention inspections and internal audits of Facilities and Systems on a regular basis and ensure maintenance of records thereof.
  5. Coordinates all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy in order to support managers and staff to maintain safe and healthy systems of work.
  6. Implement best practice and provide specialist advice, coaching and practical support as needed.
  7. Advises line management and staff, including company’s Health and Safety Committee, on the application of health, safety and environmental awareness policies and procedures to ensure the correct and consistent implementation of all policies and procedures and compliance to legislation
  8. Performs health and safety and environmental awareness training to ensure that employees and contractors are appropriately trained and skilled to undertake their roles in a safe and efficient manner
  9. Manages the transportation and disposal of waste to ensure that it takes place efficiently without contaminating air, land or water sources and also in order to develop, promote and implement new waste disposal schemes that ensure compliance with environmental legislation
  10.  Responsible for auditing, analysing and reporting environmental performance including risk assessments to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies as required
  11.  Promotes and raises awareness, at all levels of the practice of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility
  12.  Develops and maintains environmental, health and safety policies and programs to ISO 14001 and 18001 Standards.
  13.  Design, develop and conduct safety, health and environmental training programs
  14.  Maintains knowledge of all applicable and updated Regulations.
  15.  Design and conduct surveys and evaluation programs and assist departments with specific training needs and arranging outside training activities where necessary.
  16.  Facilitates all forms of risk assessment e.g. general, handling of hazardous substances, fire prevention and acts as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments performed by others.

 May be required to travel to other facilities in other regions and outside South Africa as well as conferences to keep up to date on issues, trends and
