POSITION INFO:
Skills and Experience:

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer for a 3 to 6-month fixed term contract for our client in Durban in KwaZulu Natal. We require your 5 to 8 years practical work experience in health and safety.

 

Will act as the organisationâ??s lead competent person on site and on project for health and safety as defined by the Construction Regulations and Occupational Health and Safety.  

Ensure the organization complies with current health and safety legislation approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision.

Work proactively with Site Management to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices on site and project.

 

Minimum educational level:            

  • Registered with SACPCMP                                      
  • National Health and Safety Management Diploma (or relevant qualification)
  • SAMTRAC
  • OHSAS 18001 Implementation
  • HIRA
  • Incident Investigation

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Good working knowledge of legislation applicable to field of health and safety
  • Working experience in the Environmental, Conservation, Industrial, Construction and/or Mining Industry beneficial
  • Risk Assessment experience / qualification
  • Accident investigation experience / qualification
  • Auditing / Inspecting experience / qualification
  • Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions
Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:        

The administration and management of project / site safety and contractor management systems:

  • Establishment, Co-coordinating and the implementation of health and safety programs, processes and procedures for projects / site.
  • Assist site management in complying with current health and safety legislation and /or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the health and safety of employeeâ??s, contractors and visitors on the project / site.
  • Identification and assessment of Health and Safety risks on the project / site and the maintenance and continuous improvements of the Health and Safety management system accordingly.
  • Understanding fully the construction sites specific safety requirements and assist in development of project / site specific safety documentation.
  • Effectively manage and coordinate project / site health and safety contractor activities in line with the health and safety management system.

 

Accurate reporting of HSE statistics, identification of trends and implementation of corrective actions:

  • Preparing of project / site Monthly Statistical Reports (Construction Site Report) and trends / graphs on injuries/ unsafe acts and conditions for management review as per agreed schedule and quality.
  • Managing project / site related incident investigations following all incidents, injuries, first aids and near misses to help develop corrective actions, ensure completion by assigned and / or responsible personnel, promote safe work ethic and reduce incidents and promote the elimination of injuries.
  • Ensuring that a corrective action process, which includes measurement, tracking and reporting, is in place for safety violations, non-conformances, compliance findings and improvement interventions and objectives.
  • Communicate relevant Health and Safety information on time.

 

Creating and maintaining a Health Safety culture of awareness and collaboration on the project / site:

  • Driving Health Safety values into the project / site activities thereby promoting a process of innovation and a â??safety our first priorityâ? culture.
  • Provision and management of health and safety awareness at all levels on the project / site.

 

Identify coordinate, track and monitor the training of personal in areas of health and safety:

  • Assisting and ensuring awareness of project / site management and supervision of their legal responsibility to Safety.
  • Retention of records related to health and safety awareness and required training for the project / site.

 

Engaging with clients in a meaningful and professional manner with the purpose of delivering excellent client services:

  • Build and maintain a close working relationship with client Health Safety management team.
  • Ensure client satisfaction.
