INVESTMENT ASSOCIATE | SENIOR ASSOCIATE (Private Markets): Infrastructure and Development – Cape Town

Main Purpose of the Role:

As an experienced investment professional you will be responsible for origination and execution debt and equity investments in infrastructure and development related deals, as well as assisting the business in raising additional capital for infrastructure and development related funds.

You possess strong interpersonal, teamwork, collaboration and communication skills together with a self-motivated, committed work ethic and a natural drive for building a business. Further to this you are highly analytical with excellent decision making and problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex information, identify risks and arrive at a solution.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Originate deal opportunities that are consistent with the Infrastructure and Development Fund’s current South Africa focussed mandates

- Implement deals from end to end including the presentation of deals to the internal Deal Committee and the Investment Committee

- Develop and maintain relationships with various industry players

- Cultivate relationships with existing funders / potential funders to the Companies infrastructure and development funds

- Develop and lead presentations alongside Investment Principals and the Business Development team to investors (current and potential) regarding the performance of the IDF portfolio, and the raising of new capital

- Assist with the implementation of a Sub-Saharan growth strategy for the IDF business unit with regards to attracting new funding and growing AUM, as well as sourcing IDF deal opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa (mainly specific SADC countries) and thereafter originate deals in those markets

- Mentor and upskill the junior members of the team

- Ensure adequate monitoring and management of the performance of IDF’s portfolio of investments

- Work with team in optimising a robust credit methodology that can be applied across all Mergence’s unlisted debt investments

Qualification, Skills and Experience required:

- CA (SA) or CFA or Relevant Degree in Engineering / Sciences / Commerce or other

- 3-5 years’ investment banking or private equity experience deal origination experience gained within the Infrastructure and Development Finance and/or Impact investing arena

- Experience in infrastructure Finance or Impact Investing within Sub Saharan Africa (not just SA) is highly advantageous

- Strong and proven financial modelling skills from the ground up

- Proven leadership and people development skills

- Prove qualitative and quantitative valuation and analytical skills

- Highly proficient with Advanced MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

- Flexibility to travel domestically and regionally as necessary
