SUMMARY:
Job Purpose
The Interior Decorator is responsible for creating visually appealing, functional, and cohesive interior spaces through the selection and arrangement of furniture, décor, fabrics, colours, and accessories. The role focuses on enhancing the aesthetic appeal of residential, commercial, or hospitality spaces while reflecting client style and preferences.
Key Responsibilities
Space Styling & Aesthetic Planning
- Interpret client briefs and translate them into functional, stylish interior layouts.
- Select furniture, lighting, fabrics, wall coverings, artwork, and decorative accessories.
- Create cohesive colour schemes, textures, and finishes that complement the space.
- Arrange furniture and décor to maximise comfort, flow, and visual appeal.
Client Consultation- Meet with clients to understand their style preferences, lifestyle needs, and budget.
- Present mood boards, samples, and décor proposals for approval.
- Provide guidance on purchasing and sourcing décor items.
- Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the project.
Procurement & Vendor Coordination- Source and purchase furniture, décor items, and accessories.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and artisans for delivery and installation.
- Ensure items are within budget, delivered on time, and meet quality expectations.
Project Support- Conduct site visits to oversee placement and installation of décor elements.
- Collaborate with interior designers, architects, or builders when necessary.
- Ensure all spaces are styled according to plan and client specifications.
Trends & Innovation- Stay updated on current interior décor trends, materials, and lifestyle products.
- Recommend innovative décor ideas and styling solutions to clients.
POSITION INFO:
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Interior Decoration, Interior Design, or related field.
- Short courses in styling, colour theory, or space planning (advantageous).
Experience- 2–5 years in interior decorating, styling, or related roles.
- Experience with residential, commercial, or hospitality projects is advantageous.
- Familiarity with project budgeting, procurement, and client management.
Technical Skills- Knowledge of colour theory, fabrics, furniture, and décor materials.
- Ability to create mood boards, sketches, and presentations.
- Familiarity with design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, or similar).
- Procurement and vendor liaison skills.
