SUMMARY:
International Mining company has an opportunity for Junior Drill and Blast engineer at their open pit operation based in the Northern Cape

POSITION INFO:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Reporting directly to the Drill & Blast Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible to manage the drilling and blasting processes in the open pit safely and in an environmentally responsible manner while striving constantly for effectiveness and efficiency.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Blasting Certificate

• 3-5 years’ experience in Mining operations
• Successful progression through the ranks of Mining as Drilling or Mining Supervisor

ADVANTAGEOUS

• B. Science Honours Degree in Mining Engineering

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

Drilling Control and Coordination

• Develop and implement drill design patterns to achieve STMP

• Develop and implement drilling procedures in the Pit

Blasting Control and Coordination

• Develop and implement blasting procedures in area of blast

• Monitor and control compliance to blasting procedure

• Monitor and adhere to set efficiencies on rock fragmentation and powder factor

Continuous Improvement

• Investigate opportunities for improved drilling, blasting and production performance by keeping abreast with technological trends

• Conduct feasibility studies on viability of resources in work environment and recommend implementation of new technology

Draw up and control section budgets

• Review and update production policies and procedures in line with governance principles and changes

• Carry out the annual budget plans and do constant budget control
• Review and update production policies and procedures in line with governance principles and changes

• Carry out the annual budget plans and do constant budget control

• Manage training activities in the department

• Set annual and monthly goals, objectives and targets with and for subordinates
