Junior Accountant -Tax Consultant

We are looking for a candidate that has well rounded experience across the various fields of accounting and will be expected to provide financial information by maintaining and reconciling accounts; preparing reports and will be responsible for the full function accounting duties pertaining to the business – debtors, creditors, petty cash, banking accounts, statutory returns and monthly reporting Scope.

POSITION INFO:
Task and Responsibilities

• Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
• Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct day book, suppliers ledger, customer ledger and general ledger
• Bring the books to the trial balance stage
• Perform partial checks of the posting process
• Complete tax forms
• Enter data, maintain records and create reports and financial statements
• Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner
• Payroll Experience will be a bonus
• Managing client expectations through effective communication
• Keeping to strict turn-around times
• Liaise with SARS on behalf of clients
• SARS verifications or audits
• Applications for penalty waivers
• Lodging of SARS complaints
• Attending SARS refunds and payments
• Attending to SARS notifications
• Attending SARS appointments
• Conducting internal client tracking audits.
• Keeping abreast of changing tax laws.
• Attending to ancillary duties assigned by senior management.
• Tax calculations and submissions

• BCom Accounting Degree
• 2 – 3 years’ experience
• Quickbooks Experience
• Import and export experience (advantageous)
• Fluent in English
• Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
• Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
• Systems savvy: proficiency in MS Office and in-depth knowledge of excel systems
• Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
• Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software

• Excellent knowledge on SARS e-filing
• Computer processing skills, general accounting and bookkeeping training, record keeping practices and training, or related job experience of greater than two years in a similar position
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately, including percentages, fractions, decimals, and simple mathematical formulae.

• Highly motivated with an ability to solve practical problems and follow written, verbal or other instructions with several concrete variables
• Attention to detail and the ability to organize complex information neatly and accurately.
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to compose original correspondence, write reports, have effective interaction with people, and to communicate ideas and receive and process information from others
• Self-directed with an ability to learn a systematic approach to accounting and to follow the approach without direction to maintain the integrity of the financial data
• Ability to operate computer equipment, business equipment and other general office equipment, including telephones and fax machines
• Sound written and verbal communications skills
