Junior Agronomist

Our client in Paarl has an exciting full-time position available within their Crop Science Research & Development team.

The primary responsibility of this role is to perform field trial work pertaining to crop science research. The position will require the collection and management of efficacy data and residues by complying with the research protocols.

An understanding and working knowledge of agricultural systems and technology and the crops in the Western Cape will be extremely advantageous.

The person will become part of our team, but should be able to work and manage his projects independently.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Carry out preparatory tasks for the execution of field trials.
• Assist the Senior Research Agronomist in the monitoring of field trial activities.
• Capture data and maintain field trial data sets.
• Perform statistical analysis using field trial data sets and publish results.
• Manage the trial (test) product store and inventory contained therein.
• Control company equipment used in the execution of trials.
• Correct completion of prescribed tasks in preparation for field trial execution.
• Quality and integrity of record keeping during field trial execution.
• Quality and integrity of field trial data sets.
• Timely presentation of statistical analyses.
• Integrity of test product inventory records and quality of physical product held in store.
• Effective tracking and control over company equipment in the field.

REQUIREMENTS

• BSc Agric or related qualification; 1-3 years’ experience in relevant field trial research.
• Fluent communication in English (verbal, written) is a prerequisite, and Afrikaans is a very strong recommendation.
• Knowledge in fields of agronomy, horticulture, pest control and field research.
• Knowledge on the life cycle, signs and symptoms and other relevant information on pests, diseases and weeds commonly found and likely to occur in the area of operation.
• Understanding of the use, actions and risks related to agrochemical products.
• Understanding of research principles and practices, including statistical analysis and interpretation.
• Provide the required support to the Senior Research Agronomist to ensure the field trials are conducted accurately and in accordance with protocol.
• Collect and capture data accurately.
• Manage the test product inventory accurately, while maintaining the required health and safety procedures throughout the process.
