SUMMARY:
A well-known flavour house has a vacancy for a lab technician who will primarily be involved with sample management and analysis on gas chromatograph and mass spectrophotometer instrumentation. The above mentioned will carry out quality control analysis work, interpretation, developing new methods and improvement of current standard operating procedures where applicable and as required. POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities:

TECHNICAL TASKS (GCMS SYSTEM MAINTENANCE)

Daily Responsibilities:

Check operational parameters of GCMS systems
Perform mass spectrometer tuning checks
Inspect gas lines and pressure levels
Monitor vacuum pump performance
Conduct daily testing of samples

Weekly:

Verify analytical balance calibration

Continuous:

Ensure GCMS systems are functioning optimally at all times

ANALYTICAL TASKS

Daily:

Receive and log samples for analysis
Handle and prepare samples according to procedures
Conduct sample analysis in line with company standards
Evaluate data and compile reports

LAB MANAGEMENT

When Needed:

Assist with product development
Support QC Manager with quality control of raw materials and final products
Manage stock and record consumables (valves, columns, pipette tips, gas supplies)
Report low stock levels and place orders according to procedures
Assist in method development with the Analytical Instrumentation Manager
Evaluate and source analytical equipment and consumables
Ensure correct operation and maintenance of all equipment

Daily:

Maintain clean, organized workspaces
Ensure proper storage of equipment and consumables

HEALTH & SAFETY

Daily:

Conduct morning health & safety checks
Follow all safety procedures and regulations
Work safely according to the safety manual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

BSc Degree (or studying towards Honours) in Biochemistry or Analytical Chemistry
1–3 years relevant experience (advantageous and preferred)
Strong GCMS systems experience.
