Lead a team of BI developers and analysts for a new exciting opportunity

POSITION INFO:

Role Purpose and Context

Lead the BI Technical development. This includes the Data Warehouse and ETL design, development, implementation and maintenance. Identifying and implementing new BI technology recommendations. Ensuring high levels of BI availability.

Role Responsibilities:

• The development and implementation of standards for BI including Data Warehouse. 
• Design, develop, test, implement, maintenance and support of the data warehouse, operational data stores and data-marts.
• Responsible for assessing requirements and defining the DWH architecture, implementation plan, and delivery of data warehouse projects. 
• Define the overall data warehouse architecture (e.g., ETL process, ODS, EDW, Data Marts). 
• Recommend/select data warehouse technologies (e.g., ETL, DBMS, Data Quality, BI). 
• Design and direct the ETL process, including data quality and testing. 
• Design and direct the information access and delivery effort for the data warehouse. 
• Define and direct the implementation of security requirements for the data warehouse. 
• Define meta data standards for the data warehouse and owns all information metadata. 
• Direct the data warehouse meta data capture and access effort. 
• Define production release requirements and sustainment architecture. 
• Responsible for the design of the data integration layer. 
• Define data integration practices, standards and methods. This includes topics such as naming standards, design patterns for common integration processing, use of bulk loading technologies, error management and failover process. 
• Define the DI operating framework which is the standard template structure that all ETL process must follow. 
• Responsible for the design of the data structures and data layers that make up the data warehouse. This role is central to the BI project. 
• Defines the subject areas that form the solution’s data model in conjunction with the Analytics architect. Identify the entities that are common to two or more subject areas. 
• Understand the data structures required by the data integration layer. 
• Identify the data marts that will be required by the solution in conjunction with the Analytics architect. 
• Produce estimates for the sizing of the data warehouse in conjunction with the technical Architect. 
• Define the standards for data modelling; this includes content such as naming conventions for schemas, columns, abstract data types and standards for common data structures. 
• Manages the BI modelling. Data Warehouse Dimensional Model is needed, irrespective of the way data is stored (de-normalized / normalized). 
• OLAP Data modelling defines what data at what level to store in OLAP and the drill down path. 
• Define different levels of aggregation (pre-calculated summarization of the data) for OLAP. This is a combination of IT and business considerations.
• Own the BI modelling (Dimensional & OLAP). 
• Conduct impact analysis on Data Warehouse and OLAP for all change requests. 
• Work with stakeholders to do the upstream (ETL from source systems) and downstream (reports, dashboards) impact analysis of all change requests.
• Day to day system administration and maintenance. 
• Provide a consultancy and mentoring role to the technical team on approaches and best practices for large BI implementations. 
• Interact and partner with the BI Analysts to drive BI Reporting and Analysis improvements. 
• The role holder is accountable for his/her own work (the exercise of judgement and discretion). 
• Accountable to take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards, and governance requirements in his/her area of accountability. 

Role Outputs:

• Standards for BI including Data Warehouse. 
• Data warehouse, operational data stores and data-marts implemented and maintained. 
• Accountable for the creation and maintenance of documentation, diagrams and schedules relating to BI architecture. These include: design diagrams, configuration templates and standards. 
• The role holder needs to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives relating to Business Intelligence. He/she needs to respond to requests from Business to analyze, improve, replace or implement Business Intelligence solutions to provide better support to all stakeholders. 
• Advising disciplines on information provisioning and reporting capabilities. 
• Upon request, analyze business requirements and define project scope.

Qualifications Experience Legal Requirements

• BCom/BSc or diploma with IT specialization or equivalent experience. 
• 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing. 
• A thought partner to for the technical and analysis members of the team. 
• Good communications (written/verbal), presentation and facilitation skills. 
• Project and program management skills and experience.

 Technical Competencies  and Leadership Competencies

• Expertise with data warehouse, business intelligence and reporting technologies. 
• Experience in designing and implementing end to end DW and BI solutions. 
• Strategic thinker – able to manage senior executive and stakeholder relationships and expectations across different business functions. 
• Ability to lead within complex organizations requiring strong influence management skills - ability to work cooperatively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish goals.
