Lead Data Engineer

SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer on a 12-month contract to take ownership of our data engineering initiatives, leading a team in the design and optimization of robust data solutions. This role is pivotal in shaping our data infrastructure and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

POSITION INFO:
As the Lead Data Engineer, you will:

• Lead a team of SQL Developers in designing, developing, and maintaining data warehouse solutions, ETL processes, and scalable data pipelines.
• Serve as the technical authority for SQL data engineering, ensuring high-performance data models and reliable infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative data solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Drive query optimization, automation, and cloud-based data strategies to enhance efficiency and scalability.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years in data engineering/SQL development, with 3+ years in a leadership role (managing teams, performance, and project delivery).
• 8+ years hands-on SQL development (data warehousing, SSIS, Python, and T-SQL).
• 6+ years of Python for ETL/ELT, automation, and data processing.
• Strong expertise in SQL optimization, database technologies (SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL), and ETL tools (SSIS required).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and GCP) and distributed computing principles.
• Advantageous: AWS Glue, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, C#/Java/Scala, or cloud/data engineering certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics).

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership abilities.
• Ability to mentor teams, drive projects, and communicate technical concepts effectively.

• Lead and mentor a team of SQL Developers, ensuring high-quality data solutions.
• Manage team performance, technical development, and project timelines.
• Design and optimize data models, ETL processes, and cloud-based data pipelines.
• Implement automation (GitLab CI/CD) and performance tuning for data infrastructure.
• Research and recommend emerging technologies to enhance data engineering capabilities.
