Lead Structural Engineer, Cape Town, Western Cape
POSITION INFO:
A leading international design and engineering practice is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Structural Engineer to join their Cape Town team. This is a senior leadership opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping iconic, high-complexity projects while guiding a talented engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of structural engineers, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
- Provide expert oversight on the design and analysis of complex structural systems, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
- Direct and manage the technical execution of large-scale projects, from concept through to construction.
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams (architecture, MEP, etc.) to deliver integrated, high-performance solutions.
- Champion innovation by introducing advanced technologies, design methodologies, and sustainable materials.
- Act as a primary liaison with clients and stakeholders, presenting solutions, addressing challenges, and ensuring satisfaction.
- Oversee site-related technical guidance, resolving structural issues and ensuring quality assurance.
Requirements & Skills
- Education & Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience in structural engineering, including leadership on large-scale and complex projects.
Technical Expertise:- Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE, and local UAE codes such as Dubai Building Code).
- Proficiency in structural analysis/design software (ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Excel). REVIT exposure beneficial.
- Full project cycle experience: concept design, schematic, detailed design, and IFC packages.
Sector Knowledge: Exposure to diverse project typologies including
hospitality, residential, cultural, mixed-use, and ideally high-rise developments. UAE project experience advantageous.
- Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and engage confidently with clients and stakeholders.
- Personal Traits: Analytical mindset, strong organizational ability, adaptability, and collaborative leadership style.
