JOB DESCRIPTION:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of musical knowledge and skills by individuals in order that they can function effectively within the music profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To teach studio voice lessons in jazz and contemporary music and lead vocal ensembles.
  • To accompany singing for individual singing and for vocal ensembles.
  • To facilitate the learning and teaching in the department.
  • To incorporate appropriate recording and sound technology in music teaching and performance.
  • To conduct and publish research or produce appropriate performances and creative outputs.
  • To perform academic and music engagement.
  • To perform administration.

CORE COMPETENCIES

    • Demonstrable knowledge of the theory and application of jazz and contemporary voice.
    • Proven experience at facilitating learning at undergraduate level or related working experience (2 years for lecturer and 1 year for associate lecturer).
    • Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge and music performance or the potential to contribute by virtue of publications or appropriate creative outputs, and the potential to supervise postgraduate candidates.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post at lecturer level, candidates should preferably have a Master’s degree with supervision experience. At associate lecturer level, candidates should have a BMus (Honours) degree. If shortlisted, candidates could be expected to teach a demonstration lesson as part of an interview.
