SUMMARY:
This position supports the business in dealing with various issues including drafting of client agreements, negotiating,writing of purchase agreements for the business, assist with commercial litigation and contract law agreements.

POSITION INFO:

Duties

  • To identify opportunities to develop new processes to strengthen the legal risk control framework.
  • Manage, evaluate and prioritise tasks in accordance with business needs.
  • Ensure effective and appropriate verbal and written communication of the legal policies to internal clients.
  • Proactive monitoring of compliance of the legal risk control framework.
  • Immediately report any breach of the legal risk control framework to the head of his/her department.
  • Immediately record legal risks on the legal risk reporting forms in an accurate manner and provide it to the head of Legal Services.
  • Act on legal risks notified in the legal risk reports, by raising it with MANCO and addressing it as far as possible in whatever way and means required to sufficiently mitigate risk.
  • Have knowledge of new regulatory requirements and provide comments to draft bills, regulatory documents and regulations issued by relevant government departments and/or regulatory/ statutory bodies.
  • Ensure technical correctness of documents drafted by ensuring that the latest legal precedents have been included in the documents.
  • (Above) by doing regular research on legal developments and attending training interventions.
  • To provide concise, accurate, timely legal advice to the company.
  • To provide legally sound solutions to corporate problems.
  • Ensure that all risks are sufficiently addressed in agreements entered by the company with an understanding of the requirements of business, legal issues, and possible business risks
  • Incorporate clauses in the agreements to address such risks and requirements.
  • At all times ensure that sufficient legal knowledge has been obtained and updated with latest legal developments to ensure that they are correctly reflected in the agreements drafted.
  • Where relevant, ensure that all terms and conditions in approved templates are incorporated in the necessary legal agreements and documents.
  • Assist in structuring, negotiating & drafting legal agreements and documentation relating to standard agreements and transactions.
  • Help to develop working structures and best practice guides for the company.
  • Address all probable risks by seeing to it that they are sufficiently addressed in legal agreements drafted.
  • Consider, comment, negotiate and give advice on documents/ agreements for the business.
  • Provide advice on legality, the lawfulness and enforceability of agreements and documents.
  • Identify an employee and train the employee to succeed role
  • Uphold and work within the organisation values and behaviours and support a culture that fosters teamwork and is consistently with company mission statement.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 2- 3 Years’ Work experience post articles.
  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Admitted Attorney or Advocate
  • Must have knowledge of commercial, contract, maritime and labour law.
  • Must have knowledge of litigation and court practices.
  • Innovative ideas and integrity.
  • Organised, meticulous, objective and performance driven.
  • Negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Appropriate judgement and decision making.
  • Excellent legal, communication and organisation skills.
  • Works co-operatively in a team, sharing information and knowledge.
  • Maintains a controlled, objective, and flexible approach under pressure.
  • Provides a professional, quality service in a timely manner and responds effectively to requests from clients.
  • Commercially astute and stays current on key legal and business news.
  • Report writing.
  • Verbal and written communication must be excellent.
