    The Role:

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide legal representation to the Business Units.
    • Support the work of the Business Units and manage the full range of legal strategies and responsibilities as communicated by the Head of Legal.
    • Help the Head of Legal develop and implement legal strategy and goals for the Business Unit in alignment with the larger Groupâ??s goals.
    • Lead complex legal projects for the Business Unit that span legal, business, and functional boundaries (e.g., cross jurisdictions, subject matter areas, jurisdictions, organizations and business models).
    • Provide counsel to all departments on a variety of complex issues within the Business Unit.
    • Working closely with the Group Head of Legal, the management team, and outside counsel, the Legal Lead manages contract and regulatory compliance.
    • Helps develop and implement global policies and procedures.
    • Provides research on and coordination of establishing operations in new jurisdictions.
    • Ensures compliance with the organizationâ??s governing structures.
    • Takes lead in identifying and addressing potential legal issues and risks for current activities, operations and strategic initiatives and manages litigation.
    • Analyse legal issues that affect the Business Unit or Group and its activities at the local, state, federal and international levels associated with the Organizationâ??s activities, ongoing operations, and strategic initiatives, including but not limited to, revenue diversification, and jurisdictional and programmatic expansion.
    • Develop and implement staff-friendly plans, systems and procedures
    • Develop and provide trainings on legal issues, processes and policies to different audiences in the Business Unit.
    • Collaborate with the Head of Legal in developing, implementing and monitoring a legal budget for the Business Unit.
    • Providing legal support to special/high risk projects initiated by the Head of Legal.
    • Effectively manage and resolve litigation matters relating to the Business Units.
    Skills and Experience:

     

    Essential Qualifications:

    • LLB and Admission as Attorney of the High Court.
    • Strong analytical skills.

    Preferred Qualification:

    • Demonstrable legal analytical skills
    • General business acumen and expertise in several of the core areas listed below:
      • EXCO participation
      • Strategy development
      • Employment law
      • Corporate governance
      • Enterprise development and trust management.
      • Intellectual property.

    Experience Required:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience PQE.
    • Significant professional experience with:
      • Energy and public sector engagements
      • Mergers and acquisitions
      • Commercial contracts
      • Stakeholder engagement (internal, external and regulatory); and other.
    • Proven experience in advising senior management of complex, international organizations.
    • Experience exercising influence and managing change while having an open and inclusive tone being solution-oriented.
    • Prior success building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people to achieve communicated goals.

     

    Key Accountabilities:
    • Administratively Demonstrated ability to understand complex legal concepts and analysis and translate those to non-lawyers to create practical processes, guidance and training.
    • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong teamwork and client service skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, and changing organization.
    • Comfort with ambiguity.
    Personality and Attributes:
    • Self-sufficient.
