POSITION INFO:

Description and skills

The Linux Specialist will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.

 Assist project teams with technical issues in the initiation, planning and implementation phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project lifecycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project lifecycle

Education:

Grade 12 / NQF Level 4

Technikon diploma or Bachelors (3-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science

Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux and VMware and RHEV

SAN/NAS experience

3Par and P2000 experience, HP MSA and Huawei, Setup of LUNS,Storage pools and assigning storage to hosts

Nagios/Icinga experience

RHCSA/RHCE

VMware certificate

Hardware (racking and stacking), cabling, Data centre knowledge/experience

Setup of Fibre switches (Brocades)

Four to six years’ system administration experience.
