MACROBIAL RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
The successful candidate will be focused on field trial management, field collections of insect material, culture maintenance and establishment, and lab-based macrobial research.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Field trial management
- Trial site design and setup
- Overseeing the release and quality control of macrobial products
- Checking and gathering information from data loggers
- Trap monitoring & data collection
- Checking marked data trees
- Observation of fruit collecting and cutting procedures
- Assistance with data entry
2.Field trial support and farmer feedback
3. Insect collections from orchards and other field settings for culture establishment
- Establishing population dynamics and autecology of cultures of interest •
- Complete collections in line with bio-prospecting legislation •
- Assist with in-lab establishment and diet development
4. Maintenance of research cultures.
5. Assist with lab-based macrobial research projects.
Education & Training Hon / Msc in Entomology or a related scientific field (preferred), that has experience working with in a laboratory setting with insects or other biological organisms. Other knowledge and skill requirements:
- Microscope use
- Report writing
- Be neat and organized with excellent time-keeping/future-planning skills
- Ability to mass-rear insects for research purposes
- Ability to maintain GLP standards
- Ability to work in a team
- Capable of following a protocol/work instruction
- Basic computer and data entry skills (Microsoft package)
- Valid driver’s licence
