MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING MANAGER – East London
Our client, an Automotive component manufacturing operation urgently needs to appoint an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager for their plant in East London
Qualifications and Experience
- Mechanical Engineering Diploma/ Degree or Qualified Toolmaker (Red Seal) with at least 15 years experience.
- 10 years experience within automotive manufacturing environment
- Good understanding of Kaizen principles
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
- Strong technical ability + problem solving skills
- Experience in mig& spot welding will be advantageous
Duties
Responsible for supervising the functioning of manufacturing systems in the organization.
Technical:
- Responsibility for Process Engineers & Production Fitters (jig setting and maintenance)
- Responsible for the creation of standard operating procedures.
- Responsible for plant layout and capacity.
- Ensure that current operating procedures are to the latest level.
- Responsible for the plant project team during the introduction of new projects.
- Introduce robust procedures to ensure capable and stable processes.
- Responsible for the implementation of ECR’s in the plant (process related).
- Work closely with Quality and Production to ensure that scrap and reworks are kept to a minimum.
- Ensure that machine cycle times are maintained / improved through process optimization
- Work closely with the project department during the introduction of new projects.
- Plant customer contact when process improvements are require.
- Participate / facilitate FMEA meetings.
Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing:
Plant CI champion.
- Identify possible operational CI projects and facilitate the implementation.
- Provide technical assistance to CI measure owners during the implementation phase.
- Work closely with plant controlling during the feasibility studies of CI projects. (process related)
- Review current process flows and layouts for improvement.
- Assist production with the improvement of plant OEE
- Conduct weekly CI meeting with Production and Quality.
- Update CI Action Log and present at monthly CI meetings
Quality Control:
- Maintain quality standards and ensure that all subordinates are adhering to the Quality Management System.
General:
- Maintain a safe and accident free work environment
- Ensure that sub ordinates comply with the company SHE requirements.
- Ensure that the department is run cost effectively
- Compile annual budget for department and weekly management reports
