This full-time 2 year fixed-term contract position will be based at in Groote Schuur, Cape Town. The main purpose of this position is to provide laboratory support for all studies at the site.

Requirements:

• Matric, plus National Diploma or B.Tech in Laboratory Technology
• Registration with HPCSA as a Laboratory Technologist
• 2-5 years laboratory work experience
• Computer skills : Email, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Planning and organizing skills
• Ability to work well in a team
• Ability to manage and tolerate stress
• Strong work ethics

Advantageous:

• 1-2 years previous Clinical Research Experience
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures
• Good Clinical Practice Certification

Responsibilities:

• Ensure appropriate identification and collection of specimens
• Ensure correct processing of specimens in the lab
• Perform Rapid Tests and report results
• Prepare specimens for collection and liaise with laboratory with regards courier collection
• Inform study coordinator of abnormal results as per study protocol
• Manage laboratory documentation and Standard Operating Procedures
• Responsible for internal quality control (IQC) and external quality control (EQC) programs
