SUMMARY:
Maintenance Engineer (12-Month Contract)
Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support mining operations on a 12-month contract at its operation in Mooinooi, North West. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of plant, equipment, and engineering infrastructure across the mining and processing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting operational performance, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring compliance with statutory and site-specific engineering standards. Our client is an integrated resource group focused on the responsible extraction and beneficiation of platinum group metals (PGMs) and chrome concentrates.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- GCC Mines & Works (Mechanical or Electrical) will be advantageous.
- Strong experience with maintenance management systems and reliability engineering.
- Solid knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and applicable engineering standards.
- Experience with mobile mining equipment, fixed plant, and processing equipment will be beneficial.
- Proven ability in preventative maintenance planning, equipment reliability improvement, and breakdown management.
- Computer literacy (MS Office and CMMS / maintenance systems).
- Medically fit to work in a mining environment.
Roles & Responsibilities- Ensure all engineering maintenance activities and equipment installations comply with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and site engineering standards.
- Develop, implement, and optimise planned maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and availability.
- Monitor and analyse equipment performance and failure trends, implementing corrective actions to reduce downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis on mechanical or electrical failures and implement sustainable solutions.
- Perform regular inspections of plant and equipment to identify potential risks, defects, and non-compliance.
- Support capital projects, plant upgrades, and equipment optimisation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
- Manage and coordinate contractors and maintenance teams, ensuring all work is executed safely and to specification.
- Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and engineering records are maintained in line with operational standards.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and safety teams to support operational targets and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Assist with budget control, maintenance planning, and resource allocation within the engineering function.
