SUMMARY:
An International Company manufacturing a wide range of steel products is looking for a Maintenance Planner/Scheduler to join their team.

POSITION INFO:

Purpose:

The primary role of the Maintenance Planner / Scheduler (MPS) is to assist maintenance improve work force productivity and quality by eliminating, in advance, potential delays and obstacles through the introduction of Routine Work Management system. The MPS is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all preventive maintenance activities performed in area which he/she is assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The MPS receives all work requests/orders from the requesting departments of the areas to which he/she is assigned.
  • Reviews and screens each Work Request/Order to see that it has been properly filled out: (supervisor)
  • .MPS collects data required for NCLL (Nett Capacity Labour Load) calculation and trending
  • Schedule jobs to be done and recommend best sequence to accomplish the work. Consults supervisor/s on recommendation
  • Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures as needed, from files or other sources to facilitate the highest degree of accuracy in the planning process
  • Generate PM (Preventive Maintenance procedure) by estimating the task, sequence of steps, the numbers of workers (artisans / technicians) and required labour-hours (planned in minutes) for each step. Lists determinable materials, special tools, equipment, hired equipment and contracted services needed
  • Maintains Backlog register in accordance with priority limits.
  • Once a job is planned, prior to scheduling, verifies the availability of parts
  • MPS must keep the PM catalogue up to date. If it changes, it is the responsibility MPS to re-phase the catalogue to achieve a balanced work load
  • Develops a maintenance work schedule for the maintenance area supervisor. From the backlog register and PM catalogue for each team, select a group of work orders with labour requirements matching the NETT hours of the identified work team. Schedule and coordinate the planning/scheduling meetings in conjunction with maintenance and operations.. MPS not only to chair the meeting ,but also prepare the meeting presentation, minutes and distribute MOM (Minutes of meeting incl attendance register) after each meeting.
  • At all times, advise of the status of back log register jobs. During execution of schedule, the MPS should monitor progress and keep management inform of progress.
  • Maintains close contact with the other MPS to ensure optimal coordination of effort, sharing lesson learned and overall functional health. Develops standard work orders (plans) for regular recurring jobs, based on historical experience, to simplify the planning process.
  • Reviews with Maintenance area supervisors the PM procedures in order to determine corrective measures needed to improve the accuracy of estimating the work
  • MPS must prepare reports with trends, key findings and recommendations for certain key performance indicators based on his/her analysis and interpretation of the data. KPI`s are:
  • Capacity utilization, Scheduled compliance/non-compliance, Planned VS Un-Planned work, Back log hours and unaccounted hrs.
  • MPS also to analyse and interpret lagging indicator data such as Machine availability. Make recommendation for continuous improvement through the use of RCFA or other quality tools
  • MPS to analyse and report on the success of the PM system by regular review of effectiveness of system.
  • MPS should perform stakeholder management and change management functions which include having weekly head of section meetings, Information sessions and training sessions where required or new/change in processes.
  • Keep record of work planned for annual maintenance shut.
  • In conjunction with Maintenance and operations prepare in advance a planned and scheduled annual maintenance chart. Assisting to ensure the availability of spares and other resources and compiling a forecast cost report for annual shut

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical / electrical trade with a min of 2 years post qualification experience
  • N6 national diploma in mechanical, electrical or process engineering.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years past experience in plant environment.

Skills:

  • Good English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced competence of Microsoft Project, Visio, Excel as well as other Windows packages.
  • Experience with known ERP or CMMS systems (Advantage).
  • Demonstrated ability to locate, store, review, and extract necessary reliability based information from equipment manuals and vendor books.
  • Must possess a visible commitment towards personal improvement and the betterment of his/her own professional standard.
  • Can function within an aggressive work environment (team) whereby departmental roles and responsibilities are shared for the sake of achieving better than targeted results
  • Possess a personal style and level of capability that will command respect within both maintenance and operating organisation.
  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance processes, work order systems, planning and scheduling, continuous improvement and workforce optimisation advantage
  • Good administrative and maths skills and be able to apply these skills practically for the sake of problem solving and must demonstrate a willingness and ability to organise and process large volumes of paperwork

  • Have a mind-set and commitment to customer service
  • Can manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and progress to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to read standard blue prints, P&ID’s, Process Flow Diagrams and machine drawings.
