POSITION INFO:

Our leading chemical client based in Edenvale (JHB), is looking for an experienced Maintenance Supervisor.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Responsible for managing all aspects of the maintenance department.

This includes managing the upkeep of all manufacturing assets, managing maintenance budget, resources and assisting in the design and installation of new systems and equipment. Responsible for all EHSQ conformance, activities, results and improvements for CTSA site/s. Proactively serves as a partner increasing short, mid - and long - term efficiencies as well as providing sustainable solutions for safety accountability and regulatory compliance for our people, the environment, and communities in which we work.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Operations:

• Drives the maintenance and reliability initiative focused on Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, not reactive maintenance.

• To ensure good housekeeping and safe working environment at all times.

• Ensure site and all equipment is maintained in a safe, clean and working condition. Do regular site inspections to identify problems and necessary maintenance.

• Prepare maintenance schedules and allocate work as per forecasted workloads.

• Coordinate daily cleaning and maintenance activities.

• Oversee all repairs and ensure that work is completed on time.

• Maintain all inventory and equipment and maintain asset register.

• To maintain a high level of support to operations through continuous improvements, optimization and cost saving methodology.

• Meet and exceed set KPI’s.

• Responsible for monitoring capital and repair/maintenance budgets: including plan and recommend investment for new machinery and equipment etc. for expansion, replacement and/or special projects; To ensure proper implementation and continuous maintenance of the Company’s Quality Systems (ISO accreditations and maintenance).

• To identify training needs for employees and recommend training and upgrading of potential employees within maintenance department.

• Lead and manage maintenance teams to co-ordinate with other departments together to implement company business strategies. Ensure the plans are implemented timely cost control, preventative maintenance and project control, etc.

• Build and develop maintenance team. Evaluate the performance of maintenance team members and be responsible for their performance. Take part in setting up department training program based on the demands. Supervise and inspect job responsibility and manage labor discipline.

• Effectively lead the maintenance team in the workshop; Supervise and operate the daily maintenance activities.

• Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

• Perform any other duties as assigned by manager.

 

ESH&S

• Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.

• Develop, prioritize, and implement hazard identification and risk control strategies to mitigate ESH&S risks and provide competitive business advantage.

• Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, environmental incidents and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities.

• Assimilate results of prior root cause analyses and apply them in new situations.

• Coordinate with the different Government authority, such as Environmental protection office, Safety office.

• Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety & environmental laws and regulations, hazardous-condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.

• Provide effective training for all safety programs including: machine guarding, fall protection, forklift safety, hazard communications, emergency response

• plan, personal protective equipment requirements, electrical safety, waste water treatment and safety on walking.

• Collaborate with functional managers to integrate safety responsibilities into the standard work of employees through Safety Accountability.

• Increase employee engagement by communicating ESH&S responsibilities.

• This position is required to adhere to OHS rules as documented by the company and actively support the “Safety culture”. This includes things such as wearing PPE at all times within the designated areas and actively identifying new hazards and reporting them to OHS representative.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

More than 10+ years’ experience or above in management area, working experience with similar position in the chemical and/or paint industry is preferred.

• With excellent leadership and executive skills; Good strategic view and goal oriented working style; Responsible and honest; Flexible mind set; Good attitude.

• Experience in leading maintenance program, controlling cost and supervising maintenance teams of blue collars is required.

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical or equivalent.

• Qualification in Supply Chain Management and/or Logistics (desirable).

• Excellent written and oral English communication and presentation skills with both senior management and production.

• ERP System experience is desirable (Sage X3 or SAP).
