POSITION INFO:

Our Client requires a Maintenance Utilities Supervisor to contribute to its mission of establishing local biological and vaccine manufacturing capability at its Cape Town based site. Being the only one of its kind in South Africa, the company strives to respond to the vaccine needs of the developing countries, specifically South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to grow, strengthen and build on its success and further develop its capabilities, products, services and market diversification.

The successful incumbent will report to the Engineering Manager.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

People Management

• Align departmental focus areas and outputs to the business’s objectives
• Conduct effective employee relations in accordance with labour legislation, company policies and procedures and address any performance and conduct concerns and risks timeously.
• Achieve high performance, through the Quality Management team, against the Quality Unit’s deliverables and provide the required support to other areas in the business to ensure overall company success
• Provide strategic, operational, and behavioural mentoring and guidance to direct reports
• Ensure the relevant expertise and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) alignment exists within the teams.
• Ensure continuous internal and external knowledge & skills development of the unit in line with on the job, legislative and best practice requirements
• Ensure adequate service delivery to all stakeholders internally, as well as externally
• Identify activities for delegation and empower functional managers with the required levels of decision-making ability to ensure smooth running of the operations.
• Ensure effective employee relations with regards to conduct and performance in accordance with the company values as well as performance culture. Ensure that people related matters are addressed in line with labour legislation, company policies and practices.
• Shared accountability for achieving the site’s operational and tactical plans and mitigation of any risk to the site operation including workflow, ethics, quality, finances, regulatory compliance, and other material company requirements.
• Identify and continuously present key opportunities and synergies that will improve and/ or expand the operation within own and/ or other departments.
• Monitoring & reporting on key operations, critical numbers and key performance indicators that impacts the business’s short, medium- and long-term objectives.
• Responsible to develop and maintain a 3-year rolling plan to effectively operationalise the company strategy as defined by the board and executive team.

Core Technical:

• Responsible for the management of utilities availability to the site
• Responsible for the management of the electronics and calibration function on the site
• Knowledge of Industrial PC’s and / Soft PLC controlled systems is compulsory.
• Instrumentation and equipment calibration experience is required.
• Strong fault findings skills and problem solving is required.
• Sound knowledge on Siemens S7 PLC fault finding and Basic programming, Siemens WinCC and ProTool, Wonderware InTouch scada systems, Historian and System Platform.
• Responsible for the management of the planned and preventative maintenance function on the site
• Establish world class best practice and implement changes to achieve these in the above-mentioned areas
• Life cycle costing; Implementation of PM strategy
• Utilising information technology as a design aid for replacement, and maintenance strategies for mechanical and Utilities engineering services
• Proactively mitigate general business as well as area of responsibility- related risks and find ways to mitigate these.
• Small projects co-ordination, supervision, and maintenance if necessary.
• Improvement in process/systems/equipment to save energy.

Technical Competencies required to perform this aspect of the role:

• cGMP vaccine manufacturing- quality and regulatory compliance knowledge, i.e. MCC and WHO

• Detailed knowledge of pharmaceutical industry standards and guidelines in GMP

Experience & industry accreditation/ knowledge
Required:

• Min 3 years management experience in cGMP vaccine/pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar position.
• Sound technical ability and hands on approach on qualification activities.
• At least 1-year experience within a cGMP environment

Preferred:
• 5-10 years’ experience in vaccine / biotech industry or equivalent would be advantageous.
• Experience in having faced successfully local and international quality audits would be an advantage
• Quality & regulatory compliance knowledge, i.e. SA GMP, PIC/S and WHO would be an advantage.

Qualifications
Required:
• Electrical or Electronic Engineering Diploma or equivalent
• Trade tested.
• COC
