SUMMARY:
Manager: Engineering Position Available

POSITION INFO:

Purpose:

  • Perform the functions of the employer with regards to the Mine Health Safety Act in the engineering department;
  • Implement and maintain a compliant, safe and productive working environment whilst working within budget constraints and legislation;
  • Ensure optimal performance of physical assets throughout their life cycles;

 

Major Challenges:

  • Ensuring effective teamwork across all disciplines within Business Unit;
  • Managing production and maintaining safety outputs within a strict legislative and highly regulated environment;
  • Ensure and maintain competency of subordinates;

 

Qualifications:

  • BEng Mechanical Engineering (Essential / Minimum);
  • BEng Electrical Engineering (Essential / Minimum);
  • Gov Cert of Commerce: Engineering (Essential / Minimum);
  • Management Development Programme (Essential / Minimum);
  • Certificate Project Management (Recommended / Desirable);

 

Experience:

  • Relevant experience within a heavy industry, mining or production environment in compliance with mine act / legislation and related with a minimum of 5 years operational experience -  10 years – Essential / Minimum – Management level;

 

Requirements:

  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential / Minimum) – to be conducted by the organisation;
  • MHS Act: Reg. 2.13.1. Engineer (essential / Minimum);
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential / Minimum) – to be conducted by the organisation;
  • Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended / Desirable);

 

Position Outputs:

Asset Management:

  • Ensure availability, reliability and cost optimisation of assets;
  • Manage life cycle management of assets effectively;
  • Implement Physical Asset Management (PAM) principles;
  • Align asset management to business strategies;
  • Develop and implement value adding initiatives through asset management;
  • Comply with sound engineering standards and quality;

 

Compliance, Governance and Assurance:

  • Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) and technical requirements, in line with Plant / Mine targets;
  • Monitor / identify and respond to defects / sub-standard equip performance and other improvement opportunities;
  • Ensure compliance to sound engineering principles, standards and quality;
  • Risk management in line with Group standards;

 

Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management:

  • Support core business by ensuring appropriate stakeholder relationship towards enhancing corporate profile;
  • Manage internal / external relations, including interface with external providers / other functions to ensure that business needs are met, and employees satisfied;
  • Provide relevant support and legislative service to applicable stakeholders;

 

Effective People Management:

  • Ensure optimised teamwork through motivation / empowerment and leading by sound transformational leadership;
  • Promotes an inclusive environment which maximises contributions of all individuals;
  • Ensure Talent Management pipeline supports achievement of employment equity, diversity and competency targets;
  • Articulate, adopt, embrace and live the Company Values;
  • Motivate and implement successful change initiatives in Engineering discipline;
  • Coaching and mentoring of engineers;

 

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and control departments annual budget by forecasting Operating Expenditure (OPEX) and monitor expenditure / cash flow regularly;
  • Approve relevant contracts and documentation in line with departmental budgetary stipulations;
  • Ensure continuous improvement exists in cost and production areas;

 

Functional Excellence:

  • Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end to end processes, tools, templates, etc;
  • Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication / bureaucracy;
  • Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices / knowledge;

 

Project Management:

  • Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements;
  • Create and maintain a positive business climate and a high-performance culture, by implementing high performance-culture principles and practices;

 

 

 

 

Safe and Healthy Work Environment:

  • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards;
  • Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations;

  • Ensure that business plan contributes to overall success of the organisation;
  • Optimal utilisation of mining and mineral resources through reliable physical assets;
