JOB SUMMARY:
Our client based in the Northern Suburbs, Johannesburg, is a leading global provider of process plants and engineering services for the pyrometallurgical industry spanning both the ferrous and non-ferrous sectors.

Seeking a Manager Projects to be based at head office, South Africa.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Qualifications, experience and competencies:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering.
  • Project management qualification based on PMBOK or similar is an advantage.
  • Business management qualification is an advantage.
Brief description:
  • Lead the project management department, ensuring successful execution of projects
  • according to the company standards and procedures. Implement best practises in project
  • management focussing on continuous improvement. Manage and mitigate technical and
  • commercial project risks to ensure shareholder value.
Knowledge required:
  • Latest project management systems and software.
  • Metallurgical operations and processes.
  • Manufacturing and construction standards in SA and abroad.
  • Implementing international projects with international standards where the
  • technology is based on South African standards
  • Relevant legislation OHS, MHSA, COID and Environmental Conservation Acts.
  • Construction management, safety, quality and scheduling.
  • PMBOK
  • Project controls
  • Contract negotiation and contract resolution
Skills:
  • Organisational skills including planning, project management and prioritising ability.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Excellent business and technical writing.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal, mentoring, training, and coaching skills.

  • Ability to guide project execution within contractual constraints
RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Communication:
  • Liaise on a regular basis with the Project Sponsors and Projects Managers.
  • Give regular feedback to the Excom on projects in progress.
  • Ensure effective communication between project managers and client teams.
Commercial:
  • Assist with contractual negotiations.
  • Ensure all commercial and contractual requirements are met between company and the client.
  • iii. Ensure all commercial and contractual requirements are met between company and the contractors/ sub-contractors.
Project Administration:
  • Ensure that project controls are established, maintained, and adhered to.
  • Regularly audit project systems and tools for implementation and effectiveness.
General Project Cost Management and Budget Control:
  • Ensure cost control on all project levels.
  • Compile control budget estimates and ensure accurate cost reporting and management.
  • Actively investigate cost saving opportunities for Company.
  • Maintain active resource planning over project portfolio and assist with staffing as required.
Scope Change Control System Management:
  • Ensure change management procedures are followed diligently.
  • Assist with quantifying and managing the effects of scope changes.
  • Planning and scheduling of the Project:
  • Ensure that systems for planning and scheduling are established, maintained, and adhered to.
  • Monitor project schedules and implement corrective actions if required.
Construction and Handover Management:
  • Ensure project handover as per policies and procedures.
Safety Management:
  • Manage and audit safety procedures, initiatives and enforce legal requirements.
Project Risk Control:
  • Ensure implementation of risk management processes on all projects.
  • Ensure formal record of lessons learnt.
  • Monitor projects’ risk and ensure the risk profile remains within acceptable levels.
  • Quality Management:
  • Manage project quality assurance systems.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are at the required standards
