Manager: Projects High Voltage Transmission Lines (400kV/765kV)

SUMMARY:
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the management and optimum utilisation of resources for all projects to successfully meet the requirements set for the projects. The Project Manager (PM) will be ultimately Responsible/Accountable for a project or projects. The incumbent will serve as the primary point of contact for the project/s. The PM need to be aware of all decisions taken/implemented that will impact the project deliverables, such as budget, production, quality, schedule, etc.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Tertiary Education (Mandatory)

• National Diploma/Degree in Construction Management and or Project Management, or related built environment field.
• Technical degree will be beneficial.

• Registered with SACPCMP (Pr.PM or Pr.CPM).

• Formal commercial/contract management training (FIDIC, NEC).

• Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in HV transmission overhead line (OHL) projects.
• Proven delivery of 400kV and/or 765kV OHL projects in South Africa.
• Experience across site mobilisation, access to site, route clearance, surveying, foundations, steel assembly, steel erection, stringing, regulating & commissioning of 400kV/765kV overhead lines.
• Direct experience under Eskom/NTCSA technical & commercial governance.
• Portfolio level accountability (multiple large contracts).
• Eskom/NTCSA/IPP client interface at senior level.
• Construction phase dominance (not design only).

• Foundation design interfaces.
• Tower type selection impacts (suspension, strain, angle strain).
• Stringing methodology (tensioner and puller setups, road crossings, services crossing “live/dead”).
• Ability to challenge design assumptions from consultants.
• Experience managing heavy plant, aviation risks, and environmental constraints.
• Ability to propose alternatives and recommend solutions.
• Strong understanding but not limited to the Eskom/NTCSA specifications and standards.
• Broad technical knowledge with problem-solving identification abilities.
• Continuously participate and implementation in the improvement of applied execution methods.

• Accountable for ensuring projects are completed within the envisaged constraints, including time, budget, resource targets, and set out quality standards.
• Responsible for project delivery from inception through to contract close.
• Conducts regular reviews to ensure compliance with the design, status, budget, quality of work, and schedule of contract progress.
• Provides technical guidance to subordinates on all projects.
• Accountable for all engineering, logistics, and commissioning activities on project/s.
• Conducts regular inspections on plant and equipment, including log sheet inspections to ensure compliance with required statutory requirements.
• Responsible for communicating, delegating, implementing, and successfully executing meeting resolutions.
• Management of all projects in accordance with set standards and uniformity.
• Ensure that all Commercial, Contractual, Financial, Administrative and Engineering duties required on a project/s are adhered to as per the Client’s contract requirements.

• EOTs and delay analysis.

• Subcontractor Management.

• Defines the scope of the project in collaboration with project/contract managers.
• Responsible for planning of projects.
• Risk management and calculation-minimising of potential risks aggressors.
• Contract resource (all aspects) management and site capacity planning.
• Anticipates and addresses emerging issues that may impact contract milestones.
• Ensures that all sub-contractors and sub-contracting work being performed are in compliance with the contract specifications.

• Leadership of multiple project teams (PMs, Construction Managers, Site Managers).
• Mentorship and capability building of junior PMs.
• Coordination across: Engineering, Commercial, Logistics and SHEQ.
