Managing Director

SUMMARY:
The main purpose of this role is to direct and control all the business operations. The Managing Director will be responsible for driving strategy execution and direction from the Board of Directors to ensure that the company achieves its’ strategic, operational and financial vision, mission and long term goals.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Develop and execute the company’s business strategies in order to attain the goals of the Board of Directors and Shareholders.

2. Provide strategic advice to the Board of Directors so that they will have accurate view of the market and the company’s future. 

3. Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations and market development activities.

4. Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are followed at all times.

5. Communicate and maintain trust relationships with shareholders, business partners and authorities.

6. Provide overall leadership for the company, as a whole, which will include but is not limited to the plant and operations as head of the site management team, the administration team, setting an example for others, leading the management team, setting the business priorities, providing direction, settling disputes and encouraging teamwork, and driving business performance.

7. Provide strategic, operational and technical leadership of the plant, administration function, operations and the executive and management team.

8. Accountable for the management and performance of all the company  functions – customer service, planning, materials supply, origination, production, maintenance, OHSE, technical and quality, material movement and logistics, security.

9. Drive cultural change necessary particularly in the areas of safety, performance, cost sensitivity, profitability per unit and quality assurance.

10. Develop the business to address the current business needs and future market opportunities.

Position Requirements

Managing Director is a demanding role which requires all-round business knowledge and managerial skills:

• Driving entrepreneurial spirit.

• A total of 15 years experience in manufacturing, with 8 years of managerial experience.

• Proven track record of solid achievement against manufacturing KPIs in a leadership role.

• Qualification in a technical / engineering discipline.

• Data rational profile; numerate, commercially and financially astute.

• A people person: good communicator, inclusive and mature leader with excellent listening skills

• Strong organisational and planning abilities

• Must be self-reliant, able to make decisions.

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

• Cultural awareness, sensitive to managing in the cultural context of South Africa
