Mechanical Engineer, Aftermarket Technical Support - West Rand, Gauteng

B Tech, HND or BSc (Mech. Eng.) 5-10 years with technical support, maintenance, engineering exp with OEM products like: mills, thickeners, crushers, materials handling, liquid/solid separation

POSITION INFO:

You will be part of the Service Execution, Engineering Team who provides sustainable solutions for customers. By joining this team, you will have a chance to work in an international environment involving different cultures and challenges.

Position details:
Type: Permanent
Primary purpose: To validate and provide engineering technical support for internal and customer requests for spare parts for all company equipment. This support involves supporting legacy products and finding information as well as applying innovative techniques when old parts are no longer available. Technical support of products in a manner that is fit for purpose, follow good engineering practice and internal specifications, that is cost effective and competitive in the marketplace and to ensure that customer requirements are being carried out timeously and in a professional manner.

Job description / core competencies:

• Ensure that products are designed/upgraded within the framework of contractual obligations and statutory health and safety requirements.
• Maintain continued technical support for existing company products and provide support to other internal departments.
• Ensure that accurate data is timeously provided to either drawing office, services, marketing and the customer as required.
• Ensure customers can operate and maintain their products effectively through the supply of clear, concise operators/maintenance and instruction manuals, sub assembly, drawings & parts lists.  Providing after sales technical advice is essential.
• Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment when necessary data is insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
• Participate in establishing design constraints of projects and specifically upgrades.
• Prepare engineering development plans and feasibility studies.
• Assist management with setting technical objectives related to project planning specifically related to upgrades.
• Participate in the development of new and long-term or modified methodologies, components, products, manufacturing processes, materials and equipment.
• Build and develop long-term lasting relationships with customers.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• B Tech. or BSc (Mech. Eng.) or National Higher Diploma in Mechanical engineering.
• Specific knowledge of the following software is required / beneficial
  • Excel
  • SolidWorks
  • AutoCAD
• Deep and broad knowledge of technical and production processes, materials, and quality standards
• Relevant experience in heavy engineering manufacturing processes with exposure (on site experience)
• Experience with Liquid solid separation, milling, crushing and materials handling is advantageous
• Operation / maintenance / troubleshooting of mine hoists and related equipment is advantageous
• 10 years relevant experience in a function with an original equipment manufacturer
• Experience in maintenance management would be a valuable skill but not essential
• Technical writing competency
