Mechanical Engineer (Proficient in SolidWorks), Power Transmission Components - East Rand

SUMMARY:
The successful incumbent will hold a B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and have 5 years’ experience in quality assurance in a manufacturing environment as well as 5 years mechanical draughtsman experience.

POSITION INFO:

Our client currently has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for the design and draughting of parts and components as well as offer technical/engineering support to the sales team and to the factory.

Position details:

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

New design on products.
Updating all designs and installation instructions.
Liaise with customers on all technical aspects of the products - 3D Models.
Liaise with production on any changes needed on design/ drawings.
Create, modify and update mechanical manufacturing drawings for products manufactured in 2D and 3D.
Responsible to create BOM''s on SAP for mechanical assemblies.
Ensure the quality of all company''s products.
Develop, improve and manage the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are current and appropriately implemented.
Continued improvement to meet industry best practice.
Maintain and implement a robust QMS.
Manage the quality aspects of all suppliers.
Produce accurate working drawings of components, assemblies and models based on company and industry standards, engineering data.
Assist with product selection and mechanical calculations.
Liaise with customers regarding technical queries on products.
Conduct quality management review meetings reporting on all aspects of the QMS.
Maintain, improve and manage the QMS.
Ensure that the QMS is maintained for all products, processes and third parties.
Ensure SOPs are drafted, maintained and distributed to the team.
Ensure SOPS are adhered to.
Ensure QA compliance of documentation, by reviewing and authorising relevant SOPs, master document, technical agreements and contracts.
Ensure all master documentation is updated, current and approved.
Manage the investigation, reporting and closure of all out of deviations and nonconformances.
Oversee the change control process and ensure closure of all change controls.
Monitor the Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) associated with company''s products.
Investigate and report on technical customer complaints and queries, where relevant.
Perform third party, vendor, supplier and internal audits and monitor audit CAPAs.
Participate in the new product development process.
Produce accurate working drawings of components, assemblies and models based on company and Industry standards, engineering data.
Ensure that approved outline drawings are sent to the sales organisation for customer submission where applicable.
Ensure that the checked drawings are filed in their correct directories on the server.
Ensure that the correct part numbers are allocated and that parts lists are updated when designs are revised.
Compile BOM''s on the MRP system and create new part numbers if they do not exist on the database.
Ensure that drawing office instructions are complete, prior to submission for checking
Assist with special projects and product development activities.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Minimum B-Tech (Mech Eng) or equivalent.
5 years'' experience in quality assurance in a manufacturing environment.
5 years mechanical draughtsman experience.
Relevant draughting certificates and training.
Proficient in SolidWorks (Draughting, Modelling).
5 years or more draughting and design experience - mechanical parts (transmission components preferred).
Prior product knowledge of transmission components gearbox, coupling, brakes and freewheels.
SolidWorks - 3D draughting of Mechanical Machined Parts.
Interpersonal relationship skills.
Technical competence.
Knowledge of draughting standards, material selection and properties, heat treatment and surface treatment of material.
