SUMMARY:
To join this international organisation you will need a B.Sc / B.Eng or B.Tech qualification and at least 5 to 10 years' experience managing all aspects of Mechanical Engineering Projects, Tenders, Design, Execution and Standard Product Development.  Knowledge of the chemical or water treatment industry will be an advantage.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • At least 10 Years'' experience in Mechanical Engineering (Chemical or Water Treatment industry experience would be an advantage)
  • Knowledge of mechanical and structural systems is essential (specifically in piping, pumps, skid structure design would be advantageous)
  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams  
  • Compiling of Data sheets and procedures are essential.
  • Computer skills with excellent MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Detailed understanding of mechanical components which comprise water, sewage and waste water treatment plant would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • ECSA registration would be advantageous.
  • Must be able to work independently, have good communication skills and be an organised person.  
  • Knowledge of the latest ISO9001 requirements.

  • Perform all necessary computer functions
  • Communicate with clients in a professional manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Management of mechanical engineering design and interface with the relative departments and related functions to execute projects
  • Plan, control, direct and execute the Divisional activities including administrative, quality and technical aspects. 
  • Manage all aspects of mechanical engineering for Tenders, Design, Execution and Product Development.
  • Optimize the Divisional activities through planning and coordination, activities, resource allocation and optimization of divisional operations.
  • Divisional Reports
  • Update Divisional key performance indicators as required.
  • Approval of the deliverables on tenders and projects.
  • Identify  the  training and  employee development needs  of  the division
  • Ensure continuous employee development and familiarity with developments in mechanical design, construction and the water treatment field in general.
  • Provide input on mechanical aspects related to tenders and projects, in particular compliance with client specifications, optimisation of mechanical components offered, compiling RFQs for mechanical scope or work, evaluation of vendor quotes /tenders.  
  • Take responsibility for the adherence to client specifications in all aspects of the design phase.
  • Execution of basic and detail mechanical design in accordance with the agreed project programme.
  • Detailed mechanical design and approval of equipment, vessels, piping, structure etc.
  • Coordination of activities for and/or generation of accurate Bill of Materials for procurement and manufacturing purposes.
  • Vendor and internal cross-discipline designs approval and sign-off
  • Supervision of vendor and sub-contractor equipment design and fabrication in line with specifications.
  • Approval and Issue of fabrication drawings.
  • Coordination of activities for and/or execution of Site work control and management.
  • Attend and/or lead kick-off meetings with vendors and mechanical subcontractors.
  • Assist with the Procurement function - compiling a detailed mechanical scope of supply for mechanical subcontract, technical evaluations,
  • Technical evaluation of subcontractor and equipment vendors'' proposals received.
  • Design  supervision of  equipment, heat exchanges  & vessels.
  • Assist the Project Manager with the management of mechanical subcontractors and suppliers to meet deliverables (technical, programme, cost).
  • Ensure functionally, safe installation and maintenance within the project through liaison with the Client and Sub-contractors.
  • Drawing Office, Mechanical Design Engineers, Fabricators and Quality Control interface and expediting.
  • Manage the  interactive  flow  of  information  between the Drawing Office, Mechanical Design Engineers and Civil, Structural and Mechanical Sub-Contractors.
  • Liaise with supplementary external consultants.
  • Coordination of activities for and execution of Pipe Stress Analysis and pressure vessel design as well as selection and design of piping supports.
  • Coordination, compilation and management of as-built documentation.
  • Coordination of activities for generation and approval of project schedules (i.e. valve, line and equipment list), project data books, management of plant technical and maintenance manuals, plant installation manuals, provision of assistance for site installation and commissioning as well as small projects.
  • Investigation and co-ordination of corrective measures that may arise on site during construction and warrantee period.
  • Responsible for  the development of an effective mechanical engineering division capable of executing turnkey projects in the Water, Waste and Energy space.
  • Maintenance  and  selection  of  appropriate  software for the efficient and cost effective execution of the design office duties.
  • Manage and implement document and revision control.
  • Coordinate and  prioritise project  specific  deliverables and monitor and  maintain performance.
  • Manage formal project specific design reviews.
  • Improve efficiency by optimising drawing office procedures and structure.
  • Assist with design and maintain work procedures
  • Assist with develop and maintain standards with respect to quality requirements, eg. welding procedures for various materials
  • Ensure health and safety legislation and contractual obligations are adhered to throughout the project.ISO 9000 manual to be read and understood for the procedures pertaining to the  Division.
  • Liaise with the client continuously on all technical or contractual aspects of the project
  • Interact with partners or suppliers.
  • Attend all training seminars
