Mechanical Fire Technician

SUMMARY:
Do you have Fire Engineering experience? Join one of the most diverse consulting firms in Africa, where you will be responsible to consult on fire safety, fire prevention, fire protection and life safety engineering issues for local and international projects.

POSITION INFO:

Consulting and project management for fire safety and fire system design

Design fire detection, sprinkler systems, gas suppression, smoke control systems, etc

Developing fire safety plans for evacuation, firefighting equipment, fire rated construction, escape widths, etc

Writing detailed reports for rational fire designs

Preparing tender documentation and specifications for fire protection systems and adjudication reports

Fee proposals, time management, resource management

Working in a team conducting technical designs, site inspections

Meeting with clients, architects and other professional team members

Meeting with authorities to discuss safety regulations for projects

Skills & Experience:

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Knowledge and experience in all local fire safety codes, SANS 10400, ASIB, SANS 10139, etc

Knowledge and experience in other international codes and standards, BS 9999, NFPA 101, BS 7974, IFEG, etc

Knowledge and experience within Consulting Industry, specifically Fire Consultancy

Must have excellent problem-solving capabilities, be a critical thinker, have sound judgement and decision-making skills

Must have excellent knowledge and use of scientific rules and methods to solve problems

Willingness to learn

Efficient time management skills

CAD skills, Pyrosim, Pathfinder, Canute and other similar software packages

Display professional and ethical values

Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in Fire Engineering

Qualification:

BSc/BEng/BTech/NDip Mechanical Engineering

Professional Registration or Registered as a candidate with ECSA

Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transport

Must be willing to travel nationally and internationally
