POSITION INFO:
Main purpose To ensure that mechanical tasks are undertaken and managed in a manner that supports improved equipment reliability and availability, lower maintenance and production costs, improved efficiencies, continuous improvement, and overall business sustainability in a safe and healthy manner. To conduct improvement projects and modifications in line with business requirements. Key Responsibilities Safety and Housekeeping Ensure compliance with the requirements of safety, health and environment standards and procedures Conduct regular risk assessments and audits and identify high risk areas and initiate appropriate corrective actions Arrange and facilitate safety meetings Implement safety related corrective actions and strategies Equipment operation and maintenance Ensure safe, efficient and accurate maintenance of equipment according to maintenance procedures, instructions and schedules Build, assemble, test and evaluate machine assemblies Participate in design improvements and projects to improve the manufacturing process and ensure continuous improvement Follow all maintenance related processes and procedures as required by the maintenance management system, and ensure that all subordinates follow the same processes Report on maintenance activities as required Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, processes, systems, procedures and practices Solid knowledge of general maintenance administrative processes and systems Solid understanding of organisational business processes and procedures Supervision of Subordinate Employees Conduct required performance reviews Identify people related problems areas and hold corrective action meetings Manage conflicts within the team members Ensure team compliance, health, safety, statutory and maintenance procedures and processes Training and upliftment of the team in all mechanical functions Oversee, sign off, and ensure timeous submission of compensation related documentation to HR for processing i.e. approved overtime and leave forms Control and ensure that overtime hours are kept at minimum Ensure that discipline is kept amongst subordinates Provide technical support Continuous Improvement Initiate, participate and implement improvement programs and initiatives. This includes developing methods to improve the mechanical section performance and reduce costs. Budgetary Responsibility Assist the company in achieving its budgetary requirements through the selection of the best value for money solution for the organisation and minimising the wastage of resources Procurement Responsibility Follow company stores and procurement procedures and ensure that all requirements are accurately specified to ensure the efficient procurement Manage spares stock to ensure minimum risk to the organisation whilst optimising stock levels. Investigating all possible sources of supply to ensure that the most favourable option is chosen Qualifications Required Minimum academic qualification: National Diploma Qualifications as an added advantage: Engineering Degree Professional registration: ECSA, if possible Experience Required General work experience (years): 10 years Specific to the position (level\/discipline\/years): 5 years Industry: Heavy Engineering Key Competencies and Skills Excellent interpersonal skills Good supervisory skills relating to Industrial Relations, Conflict Management, Disciplinary Practices and Coaching Stays abreast with new technological developments and identifies personal developmental gaps Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold environments Must be able to work at heights Must be able to work in confined spaces Ability to work standby and shift work as and when required Able to support the organisation in times of emergencies Computer Literacy MS Office, SAP (advantageous)
