SUMMARY:
Plans and forecasts for future merchandise buys based on historical buys, reoccurring buys and current inventory levels. Responsible for reviewing stock to sales ratios, responding to changing sales trends, and ensuring plan sales, plan markups, and plan markdowns are achieved. Being a Merchandise Planner plans and coordinates merchandise flow through. Inputs and maintains various merch systems.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Manage the purchase budget process and ensure that buyers are adhering to the plans. Work towards creating and managing the annual OTB system
  • Inventory Management Optimization
  • Track existing product lines to assess sell rate and make recommendations on next steps
  • Work closely with the buying teams to accurately forecast trends, plan stock levels and monitor performance
  • Assist to create annual sales forecast and sales plan
  • Participate in meetings and strategy sessions
  • Review incentive program for stores monthly with Merchandising Executive
  • Participate in “post mortem” national reviews
  • Responsible for the identification of floor plans and allocations as well as replenishment for new stores and relevant promotions
  • Responsible for forecasting, replenishing, and maintaining min/max levels of core product
  • Work closely with Merchandise team to develop purchase plans and assortment guidelines
  • Create Ad Hoc reporting to support management
  • Working closely with buyers and other merchandisers to plan product ranges
  • Meeting suppliers, distributors and analysts
  • Visiting manufacturers, stores and suppliers
  • Supervising and training junior staff
  • Managing levels and distribution of stock
  • Setting stock promotions/price reductions as appropriate
  • Promoting best-selling items in order to maximise profits
 
Skills, knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business planning or a related field is essential
  • Previous experience in a planning capacity is also required
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Business Intelligence proficiency
  • Analytical skills
  • Numerical skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Results-oriented
