SUMMARY:
To plan, direct and manage the operations of two concentrator plants (PGM) in the Rustenburg area in order to deliver contractual requirements, provide value-add to the client and continuously improve the service delivery in all aspects.

POSITION INFO:

Leading outsourced mineral processing plant contractor that have proven credibility in effectively managing and optimising assets on behalf of their mining clients in base metals, precious metals & stones and bulk commodities.

As Area Manager use your focused and efficient energy to direct the output of the teams and its resources through a unified and optimised approach to ensure that your plants run optimally and efficiently.

Technically astute, exposure to multiple commodities advantageous. This is a high stress role. Driving the team on the plant for production and managing the relationship with the client and the contractual obligations. Technologically driven, organised and detailed orientated, with the ability to analyse data and make improvements in key operational metrics

Position details:

Reports to: Vice President Operations
Reporting into: 2 Plant Managers
Primary purpose: To plan, direct and manage the operations of two concentrator plants (PGM) in the Rustenburg area in order to deliver contractual requirements, provide value-add to the client and continuously improve the service delivery in all aspects.
Job description / core competencies:

Ensure compliance with the company & client health and safety responsibilities
Comply with legislative and operational requirements
Ensure customer service satisfaction based upon the value that is added to the client, over and above fulfilling the contractual obligations on an ongoing basis
initiate and implement contract performance adjustments as and when necessary
Compile budgets on an annual basis for the new financial year and manage accordingly on a monthly basis
Conduct periodical reviews on a quarterly basis to ensure potential savings against budget
Ensure that all plants adhere to prescribed engineering & processing standards at all times
Ensure that all plants adhere to applicable legal requirements at all times (legal appointments & legal prescriptions)
Advise Plant Managers on operational activities
Ensure that new enquiries on existing projects are effectively analysed and the needs of the client addressed accordingly
In liaison with the Training and Development Manager, implement a mentoring and career development strategy in order to ensure the correct levels of competence at each plant
Interface with local, regional and central forums as required
Ensure that Plant Managers adhere to the principles of participative consultation and decision making at all times
Communicate and provide feedback to local forums on all areas of mutual interest on a monthly basis
Record and communicate success stories and report such achievements to MANCO
Ensure adherence to social and labour plans
Be accountable for organisational transformation
Establish a culture of performance management and ensure the utilisation of it in a fair and consistent manner

Location (country, city): North West Province

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree / Higher National Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering; or a Degree / National Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, including a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Mines and Works.
Note preference will be given to a degree or diploma in Metallurgy.
Postgraduate Business Management qualification will be advantageous.
At least 10 years processing / engineering technical experience on a process plant.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Plant Manager / Plant Engineer is required
Vast knowledge of multiple commodities
Experience in a contracting environment
Consulting and design experience will be an advantage
Strong business acumen
Computer literate in MS Office
English language proficiency
Knowledge of legal compliance
Knowledge of technical risk management
Maintenance management knowledge
Project management knowledge
Presentation skills
Employee relations and people management skills
Time management skills
Administration and financial management skills

The job calls for a highly energetic, self-driven, independent and self-motivated person with a natural affinity for analysis and data, solving problems through research, analysis, logic and fact. Combined with excellent communication skills, ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure, work in professional manner at all times taking ownership of ensuring they stay on top of things to limit (repetitive) equipment failures.

The incumbents must possess high levels of integrity together with strong self-leadership abilities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Excellent understanding of mineral processing. Be conversant with the entire manufacturing plant structure. Advanced knowledge of engineering and engineering design principles. Advanced understanding of contract management principles. Effective risk management, knowing when to escalate, defining risk mitigation plans and know when to invoke them. Must have strong analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of process safety, policies, procedures and legislation. Fundamental understanding and working experience of Risk Management. Ability to analyse bottleneck processes and support operations in finding solutions. Technical knowledge on equipment standards, maintenance approaches and maintenance strategy development.
