Microsoft System Engineer

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the Design, maintenance, setup and support of the Microsoft servers and Microsoft Exchange environments.

POSITION INFO:

Job Objectives:

• The design, setup and maintenance of Server hardware.
• Maintenance, repairs and upgrades on server hardware.
• Problem solving of server related network and hardware problems.
• Installation and upgrading of the enterprise Microsoft software on the servers.
• Assistance to computer technicians and Microsoft administrators.
• Skills transfer to other systems engineers.
• Systems configuration management.
• Responsible for Microsoft patch releases.
• The design, setup and maintenance of the Microsoft Windows Server operating system.
• Preventative maintenance, repairs, upgrades and patch deployments on Microsoft Windows Servers.
• Managing and testing of changes.
• Security: Setting up / controlling up to the operating system level. Implements and maintaining security policy standards.
• Setup and Maintenance and review of Active directory structure.
• Setup and maintenance of the file servers and DFS replications. 
• Responsible for daily backup procedures on Microsoft environments.
• Review and maintain the Disaster recovery for the Microsoft environments.
• Maintain the disaster recovery in the all the Microsoft environments.
• Ensures procedures for seamless cutover to disaster recovery are up to date.
• Full Exchange system support and maintenance (System and User Level).
• Reporting and customer interaction. Service and change management. 
• Liaison with customers on calls that are channeled through the helpdesk.
• Ensures customer satisfaction before closure of call.
• Complete and accurate reporting.
• Administration, support and maintenance of Hyper V hypervisor.
• Administration, support and maintenance of VMware hypervisor
• Administration, support and maintenance of VEEAM backup software.
• Administration, support and maintenance of Microsoft Office 365 and Azure workloads.
• • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certification (MCSE) or equivalent Microsoft certification is essential.
  • Relevant IT Degree/Diploma or equivalent NQF6.
  • Minimum of five to eight years’ experience in a Microsoft systems support and maintenance role is essential.
  • IT Network knowledge essential.
  • Two to three years’ experience on Microsoft Office 365 and Azure implementation and support.
  • Five to eight years’ experience on Microsoft Exchange servers.
  • Five to eight years’ experience on Microsoft Active Directory servers.
  • Five to eight years’ experience on Microsoft Hyper V environments.
  • Five to eight years’ experience on implementation, support, maintenance of Microsoft systems for core financial systems.
  • VMWare certification and experience advantageous.
  • VEEAM backup software certification and experience advantageous.
  • Redhat Linux Operating system certification and experience advantageous.
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a Microsoft systems to provide a high availability service.
  • Practical experience within a 3-tier environment.
  • Practical experience within a 24/7 support environment.
  • Working experience within the financial sector will be an advantage.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Good track record of dependability, accuracy, loyalty and responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently and deadline driven.
  • Must be available to be on standby and to work extensive overtime.
