Mid-Senior Level Desktop Support Engineer
A professional and established managed IT solutions partner, based in Sandton, is seeking a skilled and organized Mid-Senior Level Desktop Support Engineer to join its technical support team. We deliver comprehensive, end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions to businesses across South Africa. This role is designed for a methodical and experienced support professional ready to take ownership of client systems and troubleshooting across desktop and server environments.
This position is a core operational role, offering direct engagement with complex technical challenges both remotely and on-site. You will be responsible for maintaining system stability, ensuring business continuity for clients, and contributing to overall technical documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities: Technical Depth and Client Service
The successful candidate will manage a diverse range of technical duties, requiring a blend of hands-on expertise and focused support:

System Installation & Support: Install, configure, and maintain all Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, as well as core Microsoft and third-party application software.

End-to-End Troubleshooting: Provide comprehensive hardware installation and general troubleshooting for all IT related equipment, covering both desktop and server infrastructure.

Client Engagement: Respond to and effectively resolve support calls via remote connection and at customer sites, providing professional telephonic assistance.

Operational Management: Perform remote administration of servers and workstations, compile technical documentation for client configurations, and manage follow-up service/repairs with external suppliers.

Risk Escalation: Proactively identify possible risks or technical problems within client environments and ensure prompt escalation to senior engineers for remediation.
Required Expertise and Qualifications:

Experience: At least 3 to 5 years of concurrent IT work experience, including a minimum of two years of dedicated server support and maintenance experience.

Certifications: A matriculation certificate is required. Must hold an A+, Server+, N+, or similar qualification. An International MCSE or MCSA certification, as well as experience with Windows Server 2016 and above, is advantageous.

Core Technical Knowledge: Excellent understanding of Windows Event logs and troubleshooting methodologies. Strong knowledge of hardware components, server systems (including RAID), TCP\IP networking, and router/wireless access point configuration.

Software & Cloud: Proficiency in Active Directory administration (user management) and experience with the configuration and administration of Office 365. Knowledge of backup solutions such as Veeam, Windows Backup, and Altaro is essential.

Tools & Processes: Familiarity with remote support techniques (VPN, RDP, Team Viewer) and experience with logging and following up calls with external suppliers. Familiarity with SCCM is beneficial.

Remuneration and Professional Benefits:

Competitive Compensation: Cost to company (CTC) between R18,000 and R28,000, determined by qualifications, experience, and skill level.
