               Requirements-Knowledge & Experience

 

  • BEng, BSc Mining Engineering, Mining Geology or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience;
  • Mining Specialist related work experience is required;
  • Previous experience in the mineral sands mining industry is required;              
  • Working knowledge of mine planning, mine geology, data analysis, mine planning, maintenance planning and cost accounting principles is preferred;
  • Requires high level of energy and self-motivation with good organizational and time management skills;
  • Must be able to work without close supervision and stay more in the operational sites;
  • Must demonstrate high potential in strategic relationship with stakeholders;             
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft office programs, mining software; data analysis software;
  • Must possess strong verbal, technical writing, analytical, problem solving and persuasive skills with attention to detail;
  • Must be adaptable to changing priorities;
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of processing and maintenance operations
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive compliance to Mine Health, Safety & Environment, and environmental licensing & permitting requirements by implementing appropriate practices, standards and procedures;
  • Continuously practicing safe, healthy, environmentally friendly work practices in accordance to Mine EHS policies and procedures;
  • Assist with the definition of key operational and performance parameters for all areas of responsibility throughout Mine Technical, communicating these standards and ensuring compliance to these by direct reports and other stakeholders;
  • Assist with the development of a culture of accountability throughout Mine Technical for delivery of performance to plan;
  • Responsible for the development of the required processes to deliver a clear commercial basis for all decisions that are made;
  • Assist on developing the processes, systems, tools and competencies for effective problem definition and problem solving and ensure outcomes are delivered for all areas of accountability;
  • Assist with the identification and definition of the required processes, systems, tools, resources, training, capabilities and skills to enable the effective operation of Mining Specialist and related functions;
  • Assist the Mine Technical and Mine Managers with the definition of mine methods performance, rates prediction and material balance modelling processes, systems, inputs, stakeholders and outcomes;
  • Responsible for the accurate performance monitoring and evaluation of the dredge and supplementary mining methods applied at the Mine and definition of optimum setups to maximise production by mining plants integrating mining conditions variability;
  • Work hand in hand with production team and operation specialists to identify, map and quantify the dredge and dry mining rates restrictors (geological, operational, people), floor and feed preparation losses drivers;
  • Engage with Geologists and Geo-technical Engineers and Mine Analyst to define mining conditions patterns based on historical performance, production factors, mine path geometry, geological (face height variation, slime distribution…) and geotechnical (hardness) parameters;
  • Engage with Operations Specialists to revise, define and validate optimum dredge automation set points and sequences for each mining conditions patterns;
  • Provide continuous support to optimise supplementary mining plants (FEL, Dry Mine, Hydro-mining...) configurations and cinematics and determine required HME fleet size to reach target production rate of 1000 tph minimum;
  • Responsible for the development and validation of the mined material balance model from the mining to the processing plants to ensure accurate prediction of the mining rates, excavation and mining losses and feed preparation losses and recommend feasible and efficient improvement actions;
  • Investigate and identify safe dredge floor survey methods on a daily basis to ensure accurate measures of the dredge floor losses tonnes;
  • Investigate and identify survey approach and frequency to allow accurate measures of the supplementary mined ore and losses tonnes;
  • Ensure accurate dredge and supplementary mining rates modelling and prediction and identify actions to address proactively potential production shortfall risks or to take advantage of any opportunity;
  • Engage with the plant production team and specialists to identify and implement actions to get accurate measurement of the feed preparation losses tonnes;
  • Engage with geotechnical team to identify and implement actions to develop and validate accurate slimes recirculation model based on mining conditions, slimes and water management plan;
  • Coordinate the development and validation of an integrated mined and recirculated material balance modelling and ensure accurate RSF feed prediction including estimation of fresh ore and recirculated material proportions or ratios;
  • Responsible for the investigation and identification of improvement actions, change management process or alternative cost-effective mining methods to integrate with the existing methods and recommend optimum mining setups combination, required to achieve the target mining tonnes required to produce 1.2 million tonnes ilmenite minimum per year;
  • Engage with the Geologists and Geo-technical Engineers to classify the orebody into mining conditions domains and recommend the suitable mining methods and predicted rates from the existing infrastructure for each domain;
  • Investigate alternative improvement options of existing mining infrastructure or alternative mining methods for the mining conditions domains where the existing methods are not efficient and cost effective;
  • Recommend optimum combination of the mining methods and infrastructure size to maximise production from each mining conditions domains;
  • Assist to investigate efficient and cost-effective bush clearing methods through particular mining areas such wet lands, valleys;
  • Identify and motivative mining methods trials required and develop the scope of work including clear definition of the objectives, process, resources required and associated costs;
  • Coordinate the development and validation process of the application for capital expenditure (AFE) for any mining methods improvement projects out of the development projects including cost/benefit and NPV analysis on proposed improvement projects;
  • Promote the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of operations by identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvements, costs saving, and value creation;
  • Ensure relevant data and information are saved in the share drive, well-structured easily accessible by stakeholders and auditable;
  • Performs other mine planning and mining geology related functions as assigned by supervisor
