National SHE Manager - Steel

POSITION INFO:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Based in Wadeville, Gauteng and reporting to the Operations Manager.
• Responsible for managing the facilitation and consistent implementation of SHE standards and strategies within the Wadeville, Germiston and Ladysmith and other   manufacturing facilities.
• Develop and implement SHE plans, and standards aligned to business strategies and objectives, and monitor the effectiveness of the implementation throughout the business.
• Ensure that manufacturing operations implement the required standards to obtain and retain compliance for all facilities
• Ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, company and Group standards throughout all operations, and assist Line Managers to identify SHE risks reducing the overall risk of SHE issues.
• Provide professional input and support to manufacturing operations regarding all incidents, recommend corrective actions and ensure the effective close-out of all actions.
• Work within a matrix structure to achieve objectives, and effectively plan the project roll-out of any SHE-related projects.
• Utilise change management principles and enable effective communication of all SHE-related issues and/or SHE project rollouts and ensure SHE competencies for manufacturing operations are identified and gaps closed.
• Ensure that the ownership of SHE remains a line management responsibility within manufacturing operations and that Line Managers take ownership and responsibility for all SHE core activities.
• Maintain, investigate, develop and improve existing SHE standards, systems and procedures by adopting and implementing best operating practices (BOP’s), OHS Act, and ensure that the SHE function provides expertise and tools to enable the business to comply with all legislative and safety requirements.

INHERENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Appropriate SHE qualifications and previous practical experience within an industrial engineering/manufacturing environment in both safety and operational roles, together with a thorough knowledge of statutory OHSACT/SHE requirements, standards, and audit procedures (including best operating practices).
• Experience in the development and implementation of safety programs and the ability to influence senior management in a multi-cultural environment regarding strategy delivery, change leadership, information sharing and performance through people.
