New Product Development Manager

SUMMARY:
My client, a successful wholesale company in SA is seeking to employ a New Product Development Manager to join their offices in Epping. You will be responsible for the product development function in its entirety from product concept to the final product by leading the New Product Development Team.

POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities:

• Modify existing products and processes and develop new ones.
• Modify and improve existing recipes and generate new ones.
• Research current consumer markets and the latest technologies to develop new product concepts.
• Select raw materials and other ingredients from suppliers
• Prepare product costings based on raw materials and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable products.
• Develop products according to the development brief
• Compile/check/approve product specifications and labelling
• Work on packaging innovation and technology.
• Ensure that stringent hygiene food safety standards are met
• Test and analyses alternative raw materials
• Work with suppliers on quality issues and new products ideas.
• Coordinate and manage projects from conceptualization to launch
• Sensory testing and evaluation
• Drawing up of product specifications
• Sourced raw material testing
• Test alternative raw material against a control sample
• Test alternative additives in existing formulations
• Adjust formulations according to raw material changes
• Record results on relevant documentation
• External testing
• Coordinate the testing of finished products and raw materials (tested as required) at external testing laboratories as required.

Product Benchmarking:

• Matching competitors’ existing products while competing on cost
• Develop new products as requested by customers
• Capture all formulations and feedback on R&D database
• Cost analysis of all newly developed formulations
• Assist in drawing up quotations for newly developed products
• Create labels for new products which include ingredient declarations according to legislation.
• Create product specification for new products.

Health and Safety

• Ensure that all developed recipes are compliant with the applicable legislation

Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualification essential, ideally Food Technologist with a Chef background
• Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements essential
• 3-4 years’ experience within a similar role and or industry
• Experience in condiments and sauce developments as well as experience in spice and seasoning developments for the meat industry
• Strong MS Outlook and MS Office Skills
• Experience with supervising teams
