About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable
Copper Technician to join our team in Simonstown. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with the installation, maintenance, and fault-finding of
copper cable networks, particularly in the telecommunications or data infrastructure space.
This is a field-based role requiring a high level of technical competency, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and terminate copper cables (voice and data)
- Perform fault diagnosis and repairs on copper infrastructure
- Conduct testing and commissioning of copper lines
- Complete site assessments and ensure installations comply with standards
- Maintain accurate job records, service reports, and documentation
- Liaise with clients and provide technical support where needed
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures on-site
- Collaborate with other technicians and project teams as required
Requirements
- Proven experience (2–5 years) as a Copper Technician or in a similar telecommunications role
- Strong understanding of copper cabling systems, including ADSL, voice lines, and network infrastructure
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and network diagrams
- Experience using OTDRs, TDRs, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools
- Familiarity with both underground and aerial installations
- Valid South African driver’s license and own transport
- Strong attention to detail and work ethic
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and at heights
- Clear criminal record and contactable references
Advantages (Not Essential)
- Certification in cabling or telecommunications (e.g., SAQCC, Telkom training, etc.)
- Knowledge of fibre splicing or hybrid networks
- Working at Heights or Health & Safety certifications
