Officer: Health and Safety (Site Based)

SUMMARY:
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, promoting a safe working environment, and preventing workplace accidents and injuries. This role involves developing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and investigating incidents by following the Organization's guidelines, OHS legislation compliance, monitoring OHS of service providers, and OHS management systems (ISO 45001).

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:

• Diploma: Safety Management, or a related field, Driver's licence, CHSO (SACPCMP)

• SAMTRAC or equivalent,
• Alcohol testing,
• Basic firefighting,
• Construction Regulations,
• Environmental law,
• First aid level 1,
• Hazardous Chemical Agent Regulations,
• HIRA,
• Incident investigation,
• ISO 45001 internal auditing,
• Legal liability,
• Working at heights,
• Working at heights rescue,
• Workplace ergonomics

• 5 years’ proven experience in a health and safety role

• Developing, implementing and adhering to OHS policies, plans, procedures, rules, instructions, risk assessments, appointments, etc.
• Receiving the OHS requirements from the Client and then aligning the policies, procedures, plans, instructions, risk assessments, etc., to the requirements.
• Developing new policies, procedures, plans, instructions, risk assessments, and method statements that are not part of the management system but are required by the OHS requirements of the Client.
• Ensures policies, procedures, plans, instructions, risk assessments, impact & aspect assessments, etc., are implemented on OHS matters in accordance with applicable legislation, bylaws, regulations, Client requirements and ISO 45001.

• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and consult with all parties to ensure all documentation is completed correctly, is kept up to date, available, and reporting is done to the different parties in the agreed time frames.
• Identify and ensure implementation of correction (now) and corrective actions (preventive) and monitor compliance.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• SHEQ objectives and targets are monitored and documented monthly and accurately completed.
• Implement and maintain ISO 45001 on a project level.
• Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective control measures to minimize any harm to the employees on site.
• Identify environmental aspects, assess impacts, and implement effective control measures to minimize any harm to the environment.
• Manage OHS documented information (document and record control).
• Develop and conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings to communicate important information.
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
• Advise on emergency response plans and coordinate evacuation procedures.
• Assist the site team with the implementation of the OHS incentive program on-site.
• Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
• Review and approve contractor/service provider OHS files.
• Ensure that deadlines are achieved as per the OHS management plans, agent/Client OHS specifications, and OHS legislative requirements.
• Plan and manage new contractors, service providers, equipment, onboarding, and activities to ensure delays are prevented.
• Compile and submit monthly SHEQ reports to management and client.
• Analyse trends and implement proactive risk reduction strategies.
