Operations \/ Assistant General Manager Luxury Five-Star Beachfront Resort | Zanzibar, Tanzania An Exceptional Career Opportunity in Luxury Hospitality Our client, a prestigious luxury beachfront resort located on the world-famous coastline of Zanzibar, Tanzania, is urgently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Operations \/ Assistant General Manager to join their senior leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic hospitality professional who thrives in a hands-on operational environment and possesses a proven track record of success within luxury hotels and resorts. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager to oversee all aspects of resort operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, strong financial performance, operational excellence, and effective team leadership across multiple departments. It’s preferrable that applicants currently reside in Tanzania or Zanzibar or have strong East African experience. Recent Opera PMS experience is a strong advantage. About the Role As Operations \/ Assistant General Manager, you will serve as the operational backbone of the resort, providing leadership and support across: Front Office Reservations Housekeeping Food & Beverage Operations Guest Services Revenue Support Maintenance Coordination Staff Development Health & Safety Compliance Resort Administration This position is ideal for a hospitality professional who enjoys being visible, engaged, and actively involved in daily resort operations while maintaining the highest standards of luxury service delivery. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Support the General Manager in the overall management of the resort. Ensure smooth day-to-day operations across all departments. Maintain exceptional service standards and guest satisfaction levels. Lead operational teams through effective coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Drive operational efficiencies and service excellence initiatives. Assume responsibility for resort operations in the absence of the General Manager. Rooms Division & Reservations Oversee Front Office, Housekeeping, and Reservations operations. Ensure seamless guest arrival and departure experiences. Manage room inventory and occupancy performance. Monitor booking trends and support revenue optimization strategies. Ensure effective utilization of Opera PMS and reservation systems. Food & Beverage Operations Support the management of restaurant, bar, and dining operations. Ensure consistent food quality and service excellence. Monitor operational costs and departmental profitability. Assist with inventory management and purchasing controls. Work closely with kitchen and service teams to enhance guest dining experiences. Guest Experience Build strong relationships with guests. Handle guest feedback and service recovery situations professionally. Ensure guest expectations are consistently exceeded. Monitor online reputation and guest satisfaction metrics. Financial & Administrative Management Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Monitor departmental costs and profitability. Ensure compliance with company procedures and reporting requirements. Assist with operational audits and quality assurance initiatives. Team Leadership & Development Recruit, train, mentor, and develop team members. Promote a positive workplace culture. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching sessions. Foster teamwork, accountability, and service excellence. Candidate Requirements Essential Minimum 5 years' experience in hotel or resort operations management. Previous experience as: Assistant General Manager Operations Manager Resident Manager Rooms Division Manager Hotel Operations Leader Strong luxury hospitality background. Recent experience working within a 4-star or 5-star hotel or resort. Excellent knowledge of Front Office, Rooms Division, and Food & Beverage operations. Strong leadership and people management skills. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Strong financial and business acumen. Preferred ·         Recent Opera PMS experience. Experience within internationally branded hospitality environments. Luxury beach resort experience. East African or Indian Ocean hospitality experience. Hospitality Degree or Diploma.
