A specialist technical position is available for an experienced
Overhead Crane Technician to perform electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, inspections and repairs on overhead cranes, hoists and associated lifting equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, breakdown response and accurate technical reporting.
The role requires a technically competent individual who can work independently, troubleshoot effectively and operate safely within industrial environments.
POSITION INFO:
Duties & Responsibilities Perform electrical fault-finding, repairs and maintenance on overhead cranes, hoists and related lifting equipment. Conduct mechanical fault-finding, repairs, adjustments and general maintenance. Carry out preventative maintenance and respond to equipment breakdowns. Inspect, test and maintain crane electrical systems, control circuits and associated components. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation. Perform VSD setup and basic fault diagnosis. Inspect, adjust and fault-find crane braking systems. Diagnose faults on load cells and overload protection systems. Fault-find and maintain pendant and remote-control systems. Inspect gearboxes, couplings, wheels, drives and other mechanical components. Conduct equipment inspections and identify potential faults or safety concerns. Complete inspection sheets, job cards, maintenance records and breakdown reports accurately. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable safety procedures and standards. Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients and relevant stakeholders regarding technical issues and completed work. Attend breakdowns and provide technical support when required. Work overtime and respond to after-hours breakdowns when operational requirements dictate. Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment. Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks where required. Requirements Qualifications & Minimum Requirements Qualified Electrician, Millwright or equivalent electrical trade qualification. Minimum 2 years' experience working on overhead cranes, hoists or similar lifting equipment. Valid driver's licence. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Medically fit to work at heights and within industrial environments. Technical Skills Electrical fault-finding on overhead cranes and hoists. Mechanical fault-finding and maintenance. Preventative and breakdown maintenance. VSD setup and basic fault diagnosis. Crane brake inspection, adjustment and fault-finding. Load-cell and overload protection system fault-finding. Pendant and remote-control system fault-finding. Gearbox, coupling, wheel and drive-system inspection. Basic welding and fabrication skills will be advantageous.
