A leading, technology-focused organisation is seeking a Mid-Level Backend PHP Developer to join their expanding engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing scalable web applications using modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel. Why apply: Work with modern technologies and scalable systems Remote working opportunity within South Africa Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using PHP (Laravel preferred) Collaborate with frontend teams to ensure seamless integration across systems Write clean, maintainable, and testable code aligned with best practices Manage and optimise MySQL databases, including schema design and performance tuning Identify performance bottlenecks and implement scalable improvements Integrate third-party APIs and external services Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives Job Experience and Skills Required: Education: Relevant degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field Experience: Minimum 3+ years of professional PHP development experience Strong experience with Laravel or similar frameworks Solid understanding of OOP principles and MVC architecture Technical Skills: Proficiency in MySQL or similar relational databases (query optimisation, schema design) Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and XML Version control experience using Git Exposure to CI\/CD pipelines and deployment practices Familiarity with Docker or containerised environments Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies is advantageous Additional Requirements: Strong communication and collaboration skills Ability to work independently in a remote environment Must be South Africa-based with a fibre-ready home setup (minimum 100MB line) Apply now!
