SUMMARY:
Junior PLC Programmer / Controls Technician
Location : Based in Fisantekraal, just outside Durbanville
Site work and commissioning at customer premises as required
The employer designs and builds custom automated production lines for industrial applications. Systems are developed in-house and typically incorporate PLCs, electrical panels, electric motors, gearboxes, transmissions, VSDs and pneumatic servo systems. Electrical panel building and PLC programming are completed internally, with full factory testing and on-site commissioning.
POSITION INFO:
The role is suited to a technically minded individual with a strong interest in automation and control systems. The successful candidate will be involved in PLC and HMI programming, factory testing, commissioning of machines and production lines, and on-site support.
This is a hands-on role requiring both software and practical electrical fault-finding skills.
Key Responsibilities
- PLC programming for machines and conveyor systems
- HMI development and configuration
- Offline programming and factory testing
- Machine and line commissioning in the factory and on customer sites
- Setup and commissioning of VSDs (Siemens, Mitsubishi, Yaskawa or similar)
- Networking of control systems
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings
- Fault finding and troubleshooting within electrical control panels
- Hands-on modifications to control panels and field wiring where required
- Operator training and post-installation line support
- Remote standby support for troubleshooting as required
Technical Requirements- Exposure to PLC platforms such as Siemens, Mitsubishi and/or Omron
- Basic to intermediate understanding of industrial automation systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable working inside electrical panels
- Willingness to travel to sites for installation and commissioning
Qualifications & Experience- Relevant technical qualification or software course certification (advantageous)
- Practical experience in PLC / automation environments (advantageous)
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technically
