SUMMARY:
Package Engineer | Mining IndustryÂ
Our client, a leader in the mining sector, is seeking an experienced Package Engineer to provide specialised engineering support in the design, procurement, and integration of mechanical equipment packages used in mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure technical accuracy, compliance with industry standards, and effective coordination with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers throughout the project life cycle. This position is based on-site in North West, Mooi Nooi, with travel as required.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- 5â10+ yearsâ proven experience in equipment packaging, preferably within mining or heavy industrial projects.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, CATIA) and PLM systems.
- Strong knowledge of engineering codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO).
- Experience in equipment design, integration, and supply chain/procurement processes.
Roles and Responsibilities:- Technical Specification Development: Prepare and issue technical specifications and data sheets for mechanical equipment packages (e.g., pumps, compressors, conveyors, crushers) ensuring compliance with mining standards, codes, and project requirements.
- Design and Integration: Coordinate design and integration of packaged systems into the overall plant layout, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
- Vendor Coordination: Interface with equipment suppliers to review and approve design documents, drawings, and manufacturing data; conduct technical evaluations and support bid package preparation for procurement.
- Project Execution Support: Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning, and start-up of packaged equipment; participate in risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and design reviews.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure all packaging solutions meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards specific to mining operations.
- Cost and Quality Management: Manage cost sheets, perform trade-off analyses to optimize package design and cost-effectiveness; support quality assurance processes including testing and validation of components.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of specifications, design changes, and vendor communications; report progress and issues to project managers and stakeholders.
