Description

The Platform Architect is responsible for the production of platform design packages that are client-centric and service focused. They do this by conceptualising, scoping and ensuring the development of platforms that provide value to the Business’ clients through the participation in projects or tasks related to platform design.

Business requirements

The Platform Architect compiles business requirements to realise the service concept including:
- The information gathered from the market in regards to needs
- The proposed solution or technological opportunity
- Documented statement of work along with the relevant Labour requirements
- Parts list outlining equipment to be provided
- Technical resources required for an accurate design
- All deliverables and what constitutes a successful completion

Functional requirements

Platform Architects ensure that the features and functions provided by the service package is identified and documented, including but not limited to the:

Engineering demands that shape the platform’s development environment
Conformance demands that shape the platform, detailing the condition that the support the service and constitute the environment in which the platform will operate
Performance requirements, such as speed, usability, capacity or scalability
Written documentation and support in terms of operating the product
Testing and validation plans
Testing and validation plans
Need for training and user support
Platform architecture and security specifications
They provide a general description of the platform and its purpose which includes the technical and organisation impacts, transition and supplier requirements as well as capacity and availability specifications.

Education required

Relevant qualification (technical or business)
Certifications required
Certified SOA architect
ITIL foundation
AWS/Azure Solution Architect or equivalent

Work experience required

At least 3-4 years’ relevant working experience in IT infrastructure within a services environment proven track record in the area of business analysis and platform architecture
Good knowledge and expertise on platform design best practice, including operation of platforms
A background as a System Administrator or Developer would be advantageous
Sound experience in and with all operational aspects of a Services business
Understanding of Project Management Processes and Methodology with at least 2-3 years’ experience working as part of a project team
Experience in the process of developing and implementing new services and systems Experience designing, integrating and managing service platform and infrastructure solutions demonstrated experience in planning and developing support processes and adhering to best practices
Experience with ITOM, Integration, Automation and ITSM Systems would be advantageous
Knowledge of SDLC and IT frameworks like TOGAF, DevOps and Agile
Operations experience in management & compliance, capacity planning, cloud, provisioning automation using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Docker etc.
