JOB SUMMARY:
A vacancy for a Principal Civil Engineer has become available in the WATCIV SBU in the Johannesburg office. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancy. The successful candidate will report to the SBU Partner.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for an Engineer who can source and manage their own projects in our Johannesburg office, including managing design teams on these jobs. A variety of projects, mainly in South and Southern Africa, ensure a stimulating work environment. A willingness to travel is essential.

Experience and Skills:
The candidate must:

Have a degree in BSc Civil Engineering. or similar.
A minimum of 15 years with at least 8 - 10 years in the consulting field.
Be a registered professional engineer.
Have design and project management experience (in the mining industry) in the fields of water, waste, earthworks, and geotechnical engineering is essential.
Have experience in Structural design.
Demonstrate good people management and team leadership qualities and will be expected to lead and build an existing team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Business Unit Partner you will be involved in:

Management of projects including client liaison, design, quality control, budgets, invoicing and mentoring of junior staff.
Business development, including developing relationships with potential clients, preparing trade journals articles, and presenting papers.
Working knowledge of ACAD and Civil Designer packages.
Contract documentation and administration.
Checking and signing off on designs and drawings.
Submitting proposals/tenders to clients for new work.
Development of new products and services.
