SUMMARY:
Provide geotechnical support and expertise in a multi-disciplinary team to the Copper operations in Africa.
POSITION INFO:
Principal Geotechnical Engineer Africa
Based in Johannesburg and to travel into Africa as and when required
Must be a South African citizen
Work Experience:
• 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering across base and precious metals
• Open pit mining experience required, but both underground and open pit would be highly regarded
• Prior experience managing diverse teams, preferably in Africa
Minimum Qualifications:
• Tertiary Qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related degree, postgraduate studies advantageous.

As a key member of the Copper Technical Services Team, you will provide geotechnical support and expertise in a multi-disciplinary team to the Copper operations in Africa.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Develop and build on existing geotechnical technical standards.
• Provide geotechnical support to operations and projects.
• Foster collaboration between the mine geotechnical and operational teams.
• Embed the Glencore safety systems as core operating process for the operations geotechnical function.
• Support internal technical and external reviews and audits for operations and projects.
• Support technical evaluations and due diligence reviews of investment opportunities.
• Providing mentoring and support to the geotechnical engineers.
• Assist with investigation and implementation of geotechnical technology across our operations.
• Effectively communicate to all levels of stakeholders.
