Product Development Engineer (Automotive)

POSITION INFO:

Introduction

• An automotive manufacturer in KZN is looking for Product Development Engineers with more than 3 years development experience to join our team.

Purpose of the Role

• You must have hands on experience in new product Design, Testing, Validation and Optimization for already developed solutions. In addition, you have vast experience with Technical problem solving with the ability to initiate corrective actions. General understanding of manufacturing and production processes is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ø Product design [Design Concept, Proto-type Evaluation, Technical Approval, etc.]
• Ø Development schedule making & Milestone management
• Ø Ensure alignment to Accessory Design Guidelines [to fulfil Technical Approval requirements]
• Ø Lead Design Reviews with the focus of Re-occurrence prevention & Customer usage
• Ø Product validation - Testing, Evaluation & Fitment [impact to vehicle, installation/user manual creation]
• Ø Risk Quality Assurance - Fire Hazard evaluation for wire harness design [Electrical Accessory Products]
• Ø ECR (Engineering Change Request) / ECI [Engineering Change Instruction] management

Minimum experience & qualifications required

• Ø Applicants should hold one of the following qualifications:
• Ø NQF 6 level qualification [360 credits] in BSc Mechanical/Electrical Engineering + 3 years or automotive Engineering Standards & Systems knowledge & experience [Beneficial]
• Ø Knowledge of Computer Aided Software [Catia, Solid Works, etc.]
• Ø Interpretation of Technical Drawings and Standards
• Ø Understanding of Material types, strength, treatment methods, applications & performance
• Ø Experience with Finite Element Analysis
• Ø Experience of electrical product development [Ability to read & understand electrical schematic drawings]
• Ø Manufacturing and Process Quality Control knowledge [In Process Quality Control]
• Ø Regulatory knowledge [South African National Standards, Independent Communications Authority]
• Ø Design Review knowledge [Failure analysis, troubleshooting & counter measure implementation]
• Ø ECR/ECI knowledge [Planning, Implementation, Documentation management, Communication]
• Ø Project Management of Product Development & Reporting [Vehicle Development milestone]
