The Product Owner is responsible for defining the technology product road map and priorities, as well as specifying the requirements for the products. The role involves the articulation of the business strategy into products and requirements. A key component of the job is to extract the knowledge and ideas of the wider team and distill them into the proposition. Once the roadmap and requirements are specified, the delivery needs to be project managed.

The technology supports the advice process. Knowledge of the advice process and investments is beneficial. An appreciation of technology – data structures, user experience, user interface, etc – is also important.

The role entails understanding the tools / applications available to and commonly used by advisers and engaging with current and prospective advisers to define the product roadmap in conjunction with internal stakeholders such as business development and asset management.

The company uses Figma to define the front end specifications. The product owner will draw up low fidelity specifications and will then work with UX and UI designers to produce the high fidelity specification. Thereafter the product owner will provide the developer with context and purpose so they understand the specification. The company uses an agile approach for development. The product owner will continually monitor the build through the various sprints and provide feedback so that corrections are identified early in the process. The product owner will oversee the testing process. Business testing is currently performed by the client service team.

Advisers may select non-company best of breed tools / applications, for example, a third party cashflow tool. The product roadmap includes API integration to these third party products where the integration makes commercial sense.

The role is a central to the company proposition.

Education and Qualifications

An engineering / IT undergraduate degree is essential.

Financial qualifications such as CA(SA), CFA and CPA are relevant
